St. Pat’s DeAndre Bembry Drawing Interest

HACKENSACK, N.J. — Even though his team came up short against Teaneck Sunday in The New Year’s Jump Off, St. Patrick junior small forward DeAndre Bembry put on one of the day’s more impressive performances.

The 6-foot-6 Bembry tallied 21 point, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, 4 steals and 4 turnovers in St. Pat’s narrow 65-63 loss to unbeaten Teaneck.

Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard and associate head coach Shaheen Holloway were among the coaches on hand, along with St. Joe’s head coach Phil Martelli, Wagner coach Dan Hurley and Boston University head coach Joe Jones.

Assistants from a number of schools, including VCU, were also present.

Bembry said holds offers from Seton Hall, Auburn, VCU and Virginia Tech, among others.

“I don’t have any favorites right now,” he told SNY.tv. “I’m just taking it in right now.”

An athletic, bouncy wing player, Bembry projects to be a two-guard at the next level.

“I can do whatever the team needs me to do,” he said.

He said he plans to take some unofficial visits later this year, but now is primarily concerned with the Celtics, who are 2-2 after the Teaneck loss.

A North Carolina native, Bembry wants to help get St. Pat’s back to where it was during the Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Kyrie Irving Eras.

“It kind of does [inspire me] to see how much they’re working and see where they’re at,” he said. “And once they was here doing the same thing I was doing.”
