Former Seton Hall star Jeremy Hazell has signed with the Phoenix Suns D-League team, the Bakersfiled Jam.

“After much discussion and thinking it through, my agent Seth Cohen and I decided to accept the offer from the Phoenix Suns’ D-League affiliate, the Bakersfield Jam, rather than return overseas at this time,” Hazell told SNY.tv . “I look forward to continuing to develop my game in the pursuit of achieving my goal and playing in the NBA.”

The 6-foot-5 Hazell scored more than 2,000 points at Seton Hall, but missed out on surpassing Terry Dehere as the program’s all-time leading scorer because he missed 13 games with a broken wrist. He was also the victim of a shooting during a robbery attempt gone bad on Christmas Day.

The Atlantic 10 named Fordham junior forward Chris Gaston and Richmond junior guard Darien Brothers its Co-Players of the Week.

La Salle’s Jerrell Wright was also Rookie of the Week.

Gaston, scored a career-high 35 points, surpassing his previous career best of 32 in the Rams’ win over Texas State. The Union City, N.J. native also pulled down 15 rebounds, notching his NCAA leading ninth double-double of the year and the 45th of his career.

West Virginia senior forward Kevin Jones of Mount Vernon, N.Y., was named the Big East player of the week, and UConn freshman Andre Drummond was named Rookie of the Week.

Jones averaged 23 points and 14.7 rebounds in games last week against Tennessee Tech, Missouri State and Baylor in the Las Vegas Classic.

Jones moved past Seton Hall senior forward Herb Pope into the Big East lead in both scoring (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (11.9 rpg) for the season.

Alex Kline spends much of his time reporting on where other teenagers will attend college.

But this time around, it is Kline himself who has breaking news to announce.

The 17-year-old recruiting guru who was recently featured in Sports Illustrated and serves as a contributor to ZAGSBLOG has chosen his college.

“Next year, I will be attending Syracuse University,” Kline, a senior at The Pennington (N.J.) School, told SNY.tv.

Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert will miss 2-4 weeks with an MCL sprain.

Shumpert collided with Boston’s Chris Wilcox during the third quarter of the Knick’s 106-104 victory on Christmas Day.

“I really don’t know how it happened,” Shumpert told ESPNNewYork.com. “I just remember being in the lane, shot going up, somebody fell into my knee. I think the initial scare was worse than it might be.”
