DeShawn Stevenson to the Nets

The Nets signed veteran guard DeShawn Stevenson to a one-year deal worth $2.5 million, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told SNY.tv.

New Jersey also waived forward Stephen Graham.

“We’re happy for DeShawn,” Bartelstein said. “He’s a great fit for them.

“He brings something into their backcourt that they really don’t have right now. He’s a defense-first guy. [Head coach] Avery [Johnson] loves guys who play with great energy and passion and who love to compete on the defensive end. He goes for every 50/50 ball.

“In the Eastern Conference when you’ve got to deal with LeBron [James], Carmelo [Anthony] and Joe Johnson you gotta have somebody who’s not afraid to go guard those guys and DeShawn’s that guy.”

The 6-foot-5 Stevenson, 30, started 54 games last year for the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks — who beat James and the Heat in the Finals. He averaged 5.3 points and 1.5 rebounds last season.
