WEST ORANGE, N.J. — With a loaded field of St. Anthony, Teaneck, St. Joe’s Metuchen, Trenton Catholic, St. Benedict’s, Roselle Catholic, Hudson Catholic, Rutgers Prep, Paramus Catholic & Hun, Sunday’s action at the Hoop Group Tip-Off Showcase was elite.
***Another close game was Teaneck’s comeback 53-49 win over St. Joe’s Metuchen. The trio of Chris Jones, Neville Fincher and Joel Hernandez played a big role in the win over Temple bound Quenton DeCosey and star freshman Karl Towns. The senior, Jones, finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Highwaymen. As the two shooting guards went at each other, the back and forth play on the court resulted in a competitive game with DeCosey finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Despite the loss, St. Joe’s Metuchen had some positive aspects within the game – including Towns – who played extremely well for a freshman.
***As Trenton Catholic suffered another loss to St. Anthony, 53-33, it was Iron Mikes freshman Malachi Richardson who gained a name for himself. Richardson broke out in the third quarter of what was a blowout game at halftime. Scoring 12 points in front of dozens of college coaches, he may have land his first scholarship offer very soon. The Friars were led by strong performances from seniors Jerome Frink and UCLA bound Kyle Anderson, as well as junior guards Hallice Cooke and Temple bound Josh Brown.
