Williams to Decide Thursday; Davis Out 8-10 Weeks

Despite a report indicating Shawne Williams had chosen to join the Nets, his agent says otherwise.

“He did not chose the Nets,” Happy Walters told SNY.tv by text. “He is still thinking about it and will decide [Thursday].”

The Mavericks, Heat and Lakers are also reportedly interested in Williams, who averaged 7.1 points for the Knicks last season while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc.

The Knicks are over the cap and currently have only the $2.5 million “room” exception to use on a player like Williams, but Amar’e Stoudemire wants his friend back.

“Shawne made incredible strides last season,” Stoudemire said Wednesday. “I think from hanging around us and learning how to play the game helped him a lot.

“His situation is tough right now. We definitely want him as a teammate. He’s been a phenomenal teammate for us, but we’re just not quite sure what’s going to happen with him.”

Meantime, Baron Davis was amnestied by the Cleveland Cavaliers but will be “down a minimum of 8-10 weeks” with herniated discs in his back, his agent, Todd Ramasar, confirmed to SNY.tv.

Owed about $14 million this year, Davis would then have to pass through waivers before the Knicks could pick him up.

New York has committed to Toney Douglas as the starting point and may opt to wait and see how he performs before making any moves on Davis, who could be out until early February.

Asked if Davis had interest in the Knicks, Ramasar said, “He’s focused on his health right now. He has to get healthy to get back on the court.”
