    NEW YORK — Carmelo Anthony said he’s looking forward to playing for the Knicks this season, but brushed off any major comment on the future of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim amid the Bernie Fine sexual molestation scandal.

    “My heart goes out to the families and that’s it,” he said Tuesday at the Brooklyn Boys & Girls Club, where he appeared alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul to promote the Carmelo Anthony Foundation.

    “I have no comment about the Fine situation or the Boeheim situation. That’s a sensitive situation, sensitive topic that I don’t even want to go near that.”

    Syracuse

    Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim has no intention of resigning amid the Bernie Fine sexual molestation scandal, a source told ESPN.com.

    “He’s not going to resign,” the source said. “He’s like (UConn’s Jim) Calhoun — old warriors. He’ll get through this.”

    Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins was tabbed as Boeheim’s successor in 2007, and ESPN reported Hopkins’ contract was restructured two years ago when he flirted with the Charlotte job.

    When St. John’s travels to No. 1 Kentucky Thursday night as part of the SEC/Big East Challenge, they will be without head coach Steve Lavin.

    Lavin continues to recuperate from prostate cancer surgery Oct. 6.

    “I’m cancer free but now recognize I set myself back with a premature return to the sidelines,” Lavin told Andy Katz of ESPN.com Monday night.

    The Johnnies face an uphill battle against Kentucky because they have only eight scholarship players — including one former walk-on. Yet Lavin beat the nation’s top-ranked team in four-consecutive years (2000-03) during his tenure at UCLA.

    NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Iona’s dynamic offense rolled through Long Island University for 100 points Monday night, and LIU coach Jim Ferry said afterward the Gaels could keep on rolling into an NCAA Tournament run.

    “That is one of the most dynamic offensive teams I’ve seen in maybe 10 years,” Ferry said after Iona destroyed LIU, 100-84, for their second straight 100-plus point game. “All their pieces just really fit.

    “That’s a five seed. I mean, I don’t want to put any pressure on them, but come on.”

    Matt Jones, the Rivals No. 6 shooting guard in the Class of 2013, pulled the trigger for Duke on Monday.

    “After long consideration with my parents and people around me , we felt it was best that I commit to DUKE UNIVERSITY !” Jones tweeted.

    The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Jones out of DeSoto, Texas also held offers from North Carolina, Ohio State, Kansas, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Missouri and Colorado, according to ESPN.

    “I committed because of how they play,” Jones told Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop. “Academics was a big factor, too. I felt like the coaches could take me to the next level, as well. It felt like a home away from home and my whole family liked Duke and the decision. It was the right timing.”

    Coming off of a 22-8 season last year, Roselle Catholic will be contending with the best of the best this year in New Jersey.

    “When we all come together, we could be as talented as anyone around,” said head coach Dave Boff. “It will be the ability of everyone to sacrifice their own personal goals in order to focus on those of the team if we want to win. If our team does that, we can be really good.”
