Sam Cassell Jr. Weighing Options

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Sam Cassell Sr. went to Florida State, but his son says dad isn’t necessarily pushing him in that direction.

“He said it’s my decision,” Cassell Jr. said after putting up 30 points, including 5 of 9 from beyond the arc, as Notre Dame Prep beat New Hope (Md.) at the National Prep Showcase as Albertus Magnus College. “He’s not pushing it.

A Baltimore native, Cassell Jr. listed Nebraska, Maryland, Florida State and Washington among schools that have offered.

He took an official to Maryland for Midnight Madness and said he enjoyed it.

“It’s playing a big part [being a Baltimore guy],” he said. “But for me it doesn’t really matter where I go to school at.”

Cassell Jr. also described Washington as being “very involved.” Assistant coach Raphael Chillious was on hand Saturday.

Mostly, Cassell Jr. wants “an up-tempo system where the coach will let the guards play.”

“There’s a lot of schools that are recruiting me that let their guards play,” he said.

Said Notre Dame Prep coach Ryan Hurd: “His offensive skill-set is off the charts, but there’s still room to grow.”
