Stokes Drops UCLA, Visiting Kentucky

Jarnell Stokes is no longer considering UCLA and is visiting Kentucky today, Scout.com reported.

The 6-foot-8 Stokes initially had Kentucky among his top six, but felt they weren’t recruiting him hard so he trimmed his list to five schools: Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida and UCLA.

He has already visited Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida.

Now Kentucky has showed renewed interest in Stokes, the No. 5 power forward in the Class of 2012.

Stokes told Scout he is not close to making a decision, but doesn’t think he will wait past the fall signing period, which beings Nov. 9.

Kentucky is also involved with power forward Alex Poythress of Clarksville (Tenn.) Northeast, who is considering Kentucky, Florida, Memphis and Vanderbilt, and finished his last visit to Memphis two weekends ago.

Poythress’s AAU coach, Norm Parker, said Friday, “There’s not anything new. He has not set a date..”

  • So many of these guys keep missing the obvious – Howland will get them ready and better prepared for the NBA than anyone else out there. The facts are clear. The “Howland/UCLA Effect” is real. Too many of the highly rated recruits only see the “flash” and miss the substance that will, in the end, serve them much better and longer in their future careers.

  • Get over it……..it’s just like the UK fans need to be told now and then……it’s a new century.

  • New century?? Did you just start following hoops in 2009?

  • See?

  • You have got to be kidding me. You mean to tell me that Ben Howland gets players more prepared for the NBA than Coach Cal? How could anyone make a statement like that? Just look at the players Cal puts in the NBA and look at their draft position. Ask any NBA head coach that question. 75% would pick Cal, and that’s being conservative.

  • I promise I did not set this up.

  • Its okay, let Jarnell look like a cheap hooker who wasn’t uk’s Top choice. Only after cals under developed and non-typical promised PT Recruiting class, does he go after scraps & leftovers. Otherwise, I bet he would and still may have staff at the 1-2 JUCO Game in The Bronx. LOL Just think, he could be the next Stacey Poole and dipping out. With the new NBA CBA, uk better start recruiting players that can pass more than 1 semester of college in all elective classes.

  • This is from a KU fan who counts on ineligible players to produce for your team.

  • Just wait your turn ua Blow Job. Its all about production, I consider it already ahead of the recruiting class for 2012. Especially being that Traylor and McLemore being able to practice and get used to the system far earlier than other recruits. Get Sum!! Kansas 1-0 this season, and zona 1-1 Ouch!! lol Loss to D2 Team from Seattle and it wasn’t even a road game, for real? Doesn’t UW get a shot to blow SPU out tonight at Hec-Ed? Should be interesting huh? Stay tuned to how its supposed to be done. Dawgs>cats

  • If you knew anything about basketball, Big 12 has higher academic standards and doesn’t accept partial qualifers. Unlike say…the whack 12. LOL Anytime a high school player attends more than one high school, including prep school…it throws up a red flag. Besides, KU beats teams like they should without 5* recruits. They don’t get beat or embarassed by D2 like zona. I don’t hear you flapping you gums like you were a few weeks ago about your recruiting classs? LOL Get a dose of reality? Its called quality coaching and utilizing what you do have. Did yuou love seeing 7-0 zona transfer Jeff Withey get a Tripl3 Double the other night?

  • Don’t care about any exhibition game period. Was it pathetic and embarrassing they lost to spu , yes but not anymore so than wvu losing today. It was first (exhibition) loss since 81 and you try and pretend like it always happens. And KU is 0-0 and AZ is 0-0 so your post is stupid and irrelevant like usual. And what makes you so confident mclemore and traylor will qualify?

  • Well let me flap my gums then about our recruiting classes.
We got Josiah and NJ, sidiki and chol. Plus Ashley, Jerrett ,York , and incase u haven’t heard or forgot we got Tarczewski. Still laughin. Not to mention all the 2013 and 14 top targets lining up for a spot.
