DaJuan Coleman is staying home.

The 6-foot-9 big man from Jamesville-DeWitt High School announced Tuesday he will attend Syracuse and not Kentucky or Ohio State.

“It’s close to home,” Coleman, the Rivals No. 3 center in the Class of 2012, told reporters. “The fans, the support and the community, and the upcoming team for the next few years.”

Coleman joins 6-8 forward Jerami Grant of DeMatha Catholic in Jim Boeheim’s 2012 recruiting class.

One week after Big Blue Madness, Kentucky hosted a pair of high-profile recruits this past weekend in Amile Jefferson and Gary Harris.

“The visit went fine,” Malcolm Musgrove, Jefferson’s father, told SNY.tv Monday night by phone. “They want him. They were a little late in recruiting him but had an opportunity to see him late in the summer.”

Musgrove said Kentucky coach John Calipari “likes what he does as a combo forward. They think that his style of play suits what they do well, creating mismatches and that’s what he is. He’s a mismatch nightmare.

DaJuan Coleman and Brice Johnson will both come off the board this week.

The 6-foot-9 Coleman will announce his college choice on Tuesday at a press conference at Jamesville-Dewitt High, according to the Syracuse Post-Standard.

Coleman is considering Syracuse, Kentucky and Ohio State, but a source close to the Coleman camp said he expects the big man to stay local and attend Syracuse.

He skipped an official visit to Ohio State this past weekend and went to the West Virginia-Syracuse football game instead, which likely means Ohio State is out.

Javontae Hawkins, the Rivals No. 23 shooting guard in the Class of 2012, has verbally pledged to South Florida.

“USF is getting an extremely high level athlete and scorer,” Huntington (West Va.) Prep coach Rob Fulford told SNY.tv. “Javontae will be an immediate impact player for [head coach] Stan [Heath].

“He is a gym rat who is a potential all-Big East player. I anticipate Javontae to have a huge year at Huntington Prep and we are very excited for him.”

The 6-foot-5 Michigan native chose South Florida over Cincinnati, DePaul and Iowa, Fulford said.
