Man Charged With Attempted Murder in Parrom Shooting

Jason Gonzalez, 19, was charged with attempted murder and nine other offenses in the shooting of Arizona basketball player Kevin Parrom of The Bronx, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

The newspaper reported that Gonzalez was arraigned Sunday and will face a pretrial hearing on Wednesday in Bronx Supreme Court. He bail was set at $25,000 and he is currently at Vernon C. Bain Center in The Bronx. Gonzalez pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The New York Police Dept. confirmed by phone that Gonzalez was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and assault.

As first reported by SNY.tv, Parrom was shot in the early morning of Sept. 24 at his mother’s home in The Bronx in an apparent dispute over a woman.

Gonzalez and another man, who has yet to be apprehended, broke into Parrom’s mother’s home and a struggle over a .22-caliber handgun ensued.

Parrom was shot in the right leg.

Parrom told the police the gunshot wound caused him “bleeding and substantial pain, as well as annoyance, alarm and fear for his physical safety,” according to the Daily Star.

Parrom returned to Arizona shortly after the shooting and head coach Sean Miller issued the following statement then:

“We will know a lot more about his return to basketball activities in a month. At this time our focus is to provide him a comprehensive support system to allow him to progress to his full potential. Kevin, first and foremost, is fortunate to be alive.”
