Big East Report: Boeheim, Penders, McMurphy Talk Realignment

In today’s edition of The Big East Report, we present Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, former Division 1 head coach Tom Penders and Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com talking Big East realignment.

Boeheim appeared on SNY’s ‘Loud Mouths’ to talk about Syracuse’s move to the ACC and his thoughts on leaving the Big East after more than 30 years.

Penders, the former Texas, Houston, Fordham and Columbia coach, suggests the Big East should target Houston and Central Florida for football and basketball.

McMurphy, who has been all over the football realignment story, says the Big East could have 11 football teams next year with the additions of Navy and Air Force, but that that number would drop to nine after Syracuse and Pitt leave. At that point, the league could opt to add a school like Memphis, bringing it back to 16 basketball and 10 football outfits.
