NEW YORK — It’s not hard to imagine several of the players in Saturday’s Franchise Classic playing professionally down the road.

Kyle Anderson, Archie Goodwin, Shaq Goodwin and Omar Calhoun are all potential pros.

But of all the players in the game, perhaps none has more pro potential than 6-foot-9 Chris Walker.

Although Walker has to continue to develop his shot and his face-up game, his physicality, athleticism and ability to score near the basket are virtually unmatched at the high school level.

The 2013 star from Bonifay (Fla.) Holmes County is still mulling his college options, but says he plans to visit several powerhouses unofficially in the coming weeks.

Texas Christian and Texas A&M scrimmage each other every year in basketball.

But with A&M poised to join the Southeastern Conference for 2012, and TCU already set to enter the Big East next year, the two Lone Star State schools located about 175 miles apart could meet up in a revised Big East/SEC Challenge beginning next year.

“I think it would be great,” TCU basketball coach Jim Christian told SNY.tv.

Roger Clemens
played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball before capturing his first World Series title.

Ray Bourque endured 21 campaigns in the National Hockey League before winning the Stanley Cup.

But that’s nothing, really.

I played 23 seasons in the Westchester Ultimate Summer League before tasting glory for the first time in Saturday’s championship game.

Our Charcoal “Charks” team edged White, 15-13, in a highly competitive and tense final at SUNY Purchase.

All I can say is, damn it feels good to get that mad Caeser-like monkey off my back.

NEW YORK –
– After his unofficial visit to UCLA last week, Kyle Anderson studied tape of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and is now working on perfecting his sky hook.

The 6-foot-8 Anderson busted out a 6-foot sky hook as he and UConn-bound Omar Calhoun combined for 62 points to lead Team New York to a 146-138 victory over Team USA in the inaugural Franchise Classic at the South Bronx Job Corps.

“It’s something I’ve been working on,” Anderson, who finished with 28 points, told SNY.tv. “Being at UCLA, watching Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, I watched the highlights of him.”

Pittsburgh senior guard Ashton Gibbs scored a game-high 20 points to lead the USA Men’s Team to a 108-67 win in its opening game of the 2011 World University Games Saturday in Shenzhen, China. Gibbs and Team USA will meet Hungary on Sunday.

Gibb converted seven of his 12 total field goal attempts, hit 2-3 3-pointers, finished with two steals and dished out a team-high three assists.

St. Anthony had its documentary.

Now it’s St. Patrick’s turn.

One year after The Street Stops Here chronicled Bob Hurley and St. Anthony’s run to a perfect season (2007-8), Prayer For A Perfect Season will appear on HBO Oct. 25.

This feature-length documentary chronicles the effort of then-coach Kevin Boyle and his players, whose journey ends in a winner-take-all showdown for the mythical national championship with St. Anthony. (Boyle left after the season to become head coach at Montverde Academy.)

D.J. Newbill, a 6-foot-4 point guard from Philadelphia who spent last season at Southern Miss, made a verbal commitment Friday to Penn State.

Newbill, who averaged 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds as a freshman, also considered Temple, Drexel and La Salle, among others.

He will sit out next season as per NCAA transfer regulations before having three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2012.

“He felt a real good family-oriented vibe,” said his mentor, Donte Adolphues. “It seemed like they cared about the kid. They want to bring big time basketball to Penn State and the Big 10 Conference.”
