Sources: Goodman to Decommit from Villanova

Savon Goodman will decommit from Villanova and attend another school, multiple sources with knowledge confirmed Saturday to SNY.tv.

“He is definitely looking for another school,” one source with knowledge said.

The 6-foot-6 Goodman reportedly made the announcement at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game, set for Saturday night.

Academy of the New Church coach Kevin Givens told the Philly Inquirer several schools had already called on Goodman, who was not immediately available for comment.

“I really can’t confirm anything on the storyline,” he told the paper. “It’s kind of unfortunate, not hearing anything. I just got a phone call from Wake Forest and Virginia Tech, but I’ve got a message to Villanova as we speak. I’m also trying to get through to Savon, and his aunt and uncle. They haven’t told me they were planning on decommitting. So I’m just waiting to hear from those guys.”

The Philly Inquirer also reported that Goodman may leave Academy of the New Church and may not begin college until 2013 instead of 2012.

“Well, here’s the thing,” Givens told the Inquirer. “We won’t know until school starts sometime next week. But my thinking, and I can’t confirm this, is that he will not be back.

“The reason is exactly what people have said, because of the academic approach that we have. That’s a priority for us, so there may be something to that.”

Goodman was part of a three-man recruiting class that includes 6-3 point guard Ryan Arcidiacono and 6-9 center Daniel Ochefu.

Villanova, which recently saw rising sophomore forward Isaiah Armwood announce his transfer, is also in the mix for 6-8 forward Amile Jefferson. Jefferson is also strongly considering St. John’s, UConn and Ohio State, among others.

“[Villanova] is definitely a school that factors into my thoughts, being a hometown school,” Jefferson said by phone from the Boost Mobile game. “Being able to recruit guys out of Philly has been great, so it’s been really good so far.”

Jefferson has an official visit set to Ohio State the weekend of Sept. 23, and recently visited N.C. State and Temple.

“I’m still pretty wide open,” Jefferson said. “We’re still looking to see who else we’re going to visit before we make a decision.”
