Kris Dunn will take an unofficial visit to Providence Wednesday and is expected to announce at 1 p.m. for the Friars, a source with knowledge told SNY.tv.
“A commitment from a top point guard in the class will speak volumes about [the Providence] program,” the source said.
The 6-foot-3 Dunn is the No. 4 point guard in the Class of 2012, per Rivals.
Dunn had reportedly narrowed his list to Providence and UConn, but a source close to the Huskies staff said head coach Jim Calhoun had not been in recent contact with Dunn and that UConn was instead focusing on bigs like Andre Drummond, Jarnell Stokes, Anthony Bennett and Chris Obekpa.
Speaking of Drummond, Dunn will not end up teaming with his friend at Wilbraham & Munson in Massachusetts but instead will return to New London (Conn.) High, which he helped lead to a 27-0 record and a Class L state title last seaon.
“Things were moving very fast this summer,” John Seldon, Dunn’s father, told The Day of New London. “It’s best for Kris right now at New London, graduating with his friends and getting his education.”
The 6-10 Drummond recently announced his decision to leave St. Thomas More (Conn.) for Wilbraham and Munson in part so that he and Dunn could team up together.
Providence and new head coach Ed Cooley are also in the mix for 6-7 Notre Dame Prep shooting guard Ricky Ledo, who told SNY.tv Tuesday he had narrowed his list to Providence, Kentucky, UConn, Syracuse and West Virginia.
