James Robinson to Pittsburgh

James Robinson had seen every other school he was considering.

But he wanted to check out Pittsburgh before making a decision.

After visiting the Big East school Saturday, Robinson pulled the trigger for the Panthers over Virginia and Notre Dame.

“The school is ranked Top 10…and everyone there is committed to developing better student athletes,” Robinson said by text.

He added: “I will do anything to help us win.”

The 6-foot-3 DeMatha Catholic point guard will be a proven winner and leader for Pitt, according to Team Takeover coach Keith Stevens.

“The thing that he does, he really studies the game,” Stevens told ESPN.com, which broke the story. “He knows he’s not the quickest or the most athletic. He just asks questions. With this decision, he had to go somewhere he wasn’t going to lose. We lost four games all summer and he cried after everyone one of them. He couldn’t go somewhere and learn how to lose. He’s a trickster, he’s an old-school guy that finds a way.”

Robinson has paid attention to the last two Pitt point guards, Levance Fields and Ashton Gibbs, now entering his senior season.

“Those two point guards, when they came in to to Jamie Dixon’s system they weren’t really superstars but they worked hard and the coaching staff was able to develop them as players,” he said earlier this month. “I’m going to work hard and let coach Dixon develop my game.”

As for his senior season, Robinson wants to help DeMatha win another WCAC Championship. They beat arch-rival Gonzaga, 51-48, last season to win their third straight title.

“Just win the championship,” Robinson said.

  • I guess the kid didn’t really do his homework on the school he is committing his next 4 years.
PITT is a Publicly funded University and NOT a Private school.

“For most of its history Pitt was a private institution, until it became part of the Commonwealth System of Higher Education in 1966.”
