Seton Hall has landed a verbal pledge from 6-foot-8, 230-pound Raymon Austin, a 2012 forward from Paris (Texas) Junior College.
There is hardly any information about Austin on the web, but Paris assistant coach Albert Talley says he can contribute to the Pirates as soon as he arrives in 2012.
“He’s as strong as an ox,” Talley told SNY.tv by phone. “He’s athletic as all get out. Just a very talented player. He’s got an opportunity to be a pro.”
He added: “I’m 6-7, 250 and Ray walks in the office and lifts me over his head and spins me around.”
Talley said Austin, 21, held no other offers at the moment, but that Seton Hall got involved early.
“Seton Hall was the big one that came in and made a big push and has always been involved,” Talley said.
Talley said Austin is originally from Chattanooga, Tenn., and that he arrived at Paris this spring. He is set to graduate in May, according to Talley.
“He’s a four man,” the coach added. “He can face up, post up. He’s got a lot of talent. He can put the ball on the ground, shoot well from the 3. He’s a tough mismatch type of kid. He can play some 3 with the way that they play. He’s strong enough to play down low if they have to.”
Seton Hall will also add 6-9 transfer Gene Teague (Southern Illinois) and 6-6 transfer Brian Oliver (Georgia Tech) in 2012, giving them some bulk on a front line that will also include Brandon Mobley and potentially Kevin Johnson in the post Herb Pope Era.
