Chris Thomas, the No. 1 shooting guard in the Class of 2013, has landed at South Kent (Conn.).
A Denver native, Thomas was at Westwind (Ariz.) Prep for the second semester last season but never played because he arrived late, and before that was at Bowie (Md.) Princeton Day.
“Chris is a tremendous talent and I am excited about the opportunity to coach him,” South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson told SNY.tv. “Chris has great size and athleticism for the guard position. He should make an immediate impact.”
There had been some thought that Thomas would follow former Westwind coach Gary Trousdale to his new school, La Jolla (Calif.) Prep. But he chose not to.
“We wish Chris Thomas the best of luck,” Trousdale said. “He is a great kid first and foremost and has a bright future ahead of him.”
Thomas holds offers from Arizona, Kentucky, Colorado, Louisville and Xavier, among others.
“I like Kentucky, I like Kansas, Arizona, and I liked Louisville a lot when I was there,” Thomas recently told Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal.
“I’m nowhere near making a decision,” he said. “When I know, I will know. I hope soon, but you never know; probably not until the end of my (senior) season.
“I am real interested in visiting Arizona, (Kansas) and Kentucky.”
MACON TO HUNTINGTON PREP
Elijah Macon, a 6-7 power forward from Columbus (Ohio) Marion Franklin, has also transferred to Huntington (W.V.) Prep.
“Elijah gives us a very athletic power forward who can guard multiple positions and rebound at a very high level,” Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford said. “We love his ability to score in a variety of ways and he fits perfectly with our new spread offense.
“His ability to step out and shoot the 3 and take guys off the bounce will cause matchup problems for opposing teams. We are very excited to have Elijah.”
Macon, who also plays for All-Ohio Red, is the No. 15 power forward in the Class of 2012, per Rivals.
West Virginia, UConn and Cincinnati are reportedly in the mix for the one-time West Virginia commit.
CANTY TO WESTWIND PREP
New York City point guard Kareem Canty is on the move to the Westwind (Az.) Prep postgrad team.
“I feel it would put me in a position to become a better person and give me the exposure I’m looking for,” Canty told Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop. “The staff put a good team together and I feel this could be a special squad.”
Canty, who spent last season at Bridgton (Me.) Academy, is considering Miami (FL), Xavier, Seton Hall, UCLA and Florida State, among others.
“We feel fortunate to be able to bring someone that comes with as many accolades and abilities as he has,” Westwind coach Ken Carrillo said by phone. “We feel like he’ll add to an already competent team so we feel very good about that.”
