Kareem Canty Talks About Opening It Up

PHILLY — Kareem Canty recently decided to hold off on committing to a college and now it’s paying off.

“I decided to wait because I spoke to my AAU mentor, Dana Dingle, and he told me more schools would come out,” Canty, a 2012 point guard from Brooklyn, said Wednesday at the Reebok Breakout Challenge. “Don’t rush nothing, just enjoy the process.”

Canty now includes Baylor, Miami, Seton Hall, Xavier, Illinois, Oklahoma, Washington and UCLA among the schools courting him.

Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard and associate head coach Shaheen Holloway were tracking him at Reebok.

“I feel all schools are on the same level,” Canty said. “There’s no list right now, I’m just wide open.”

Canty, who is mulling attending South Kent (Conn.) or Brewster (N.H.) Academy next season, plans to take some visits in August and September.
