N.C. State point guard Ryan Harrow will begin his 10-day, five-school odyssey today by tripping to the University of Kentucky with his mother Fern Matthews.
“I’m actually leaving out today,” Matthews said Tuesday by phone. “We get there this evening. We’ll have our visit tomorrow [Wednesday] morning. I’ll be meeting the coaching staff, the strength and conditioning coach is very important, and the academic staff.”
Maryland has been searching for a coach, while Rutgers has an associate head coach with deep ties to the DC Assault AAU program.
In the end, both factors likely contributed to this verdict: Judge has ruled for Rutgers.
Wally Judge, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound power forward from Washington, D.C., will transfer to the New Jersey school from Kansas State.
While Maryland on Monday announced the hiring of former Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon to replace the retired Gary Williams, Judge has known Rutgers associate head coach David Cox since he was in “ninth or 10th grade” when he played with DC Assault.
Kyle Anderson, the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2012 according to Rivals, continues to say that Seton Hall is working the hardest to land him.
“Yeah, they’re definitely recruiting me the hardest and doing the best job,” the 6-foot-8 Anderson told NBEBasketball.com. “They got good recruits coming in so they’re definitely up there for me to go. I think [I could see myself] playing with the recruits that they’re bringing in and some of the players they have there [already]”
NEW YORK — Kelvin Amayo has made his decision.
“I will be taking my talents to Towson University, to be a Tiger,” the 6-foot-5, 210-pound combo guard out of Hillside, N.J. said Monday in the SNY.tv studio.
Amayo, who averaged 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals for a Newark (N.J.) NIA Prep team that finished 26-7, chose Towson over College of Charleston, Providence and Seton Hall because first-year head coach Pat Skerry has offered to give him the ball and let him run the offense.

The 6-foot-6 Liggins, who averaged 8.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season, excelled Saturday at the NBA Combine at the Nets’ facility.

The Maryland coaching search hasn’t quite rivaled N.C. State in terms of incompetence, but it seems to be getting there.
Seemingly every coach except Phil Jackson, Bob Knight and Kenny Reeves (pictured) turned down the N.C. State gig before Mark Gottfried accepted the job.
Now Maryland has swung and missed on Arizona’s Sean Miller, Notre Dame’s Mike Brey and Villanova’s Jay Wright in just three days since Gary Williams announced his retirement Thursday.
