BOSTON — God will visit St. John’s on Easter weekend.
God’s Gift Achiuwa, a 6-foot-8 power forward who averaged 22.3 points and 11.7 rebounds at Erie (N.Y.) Community College, will trip to St. John’s this weekend after taking officials to Washington and Cincinnati.
Rhode Island and Charlotte are also in the mix, but he is likely to decide between the three schools he’s visited sometime soon.
“He said the [Washington] campus was great,” Erie coach Alex Nwora told the Seattle Times. “He liked the team. They have a good program. I didn’t really talk to him in detail about the visit, but we’ll do that this week.”
Cincinnati is also a viable candidate. The Bearcats have one more scholarship available despite recently landing a JUCO big man of their own in Cheikh Mbodji,
Still, St. John’s has been on Achiuwa since last summer, and Queens could be the ultimate landing spot for the Nigerian forward.
“Being a foreign student, he has to see the school to compare,” Nwora told the Seattle TimesĀ “He can not just go on what he thinks he knows. He wants to know what he’s getting into before he signs with anybody.”
