Coaches Flocking to See Anderson (UPDATED)

BOSTON — With the April contact period set to close Wednesday, college coaches will flock to see St. Anthony junior guard Kyle Anderson on Tuesday at the Jersey City school.

Kyle Anderson Sr. said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, Georgetown coach John Thompson III, Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard, UCLA coach Ben Howland and Boston college coach Steve Donahue have all contacted him about coming to the workout.

Assistants from North Carolina and UMass have also said they will be there “to see Kyle,” his father said.

St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley, on vacation in Orlando, Fla., said he thought Seton Hall was an option “if he gets there and there are some other good players to play with. I think they just need to show that either getting him, or in addition to getting him they’re going to have other good players.”

Kyle Sr. said both Syracuse and Florida are now options, too.

“Cuse is now in the mix and with [assistant coach] Norm Roberts at Florida, they become a contender,” he said.

The 6-foot-8 Anderson is the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2012, according to Rivals, but some schools are looking at playing him as a point forward.

“I think the thing with Kyle is that people were recruiting him at one point only as a point guard,” Hurley said, “and I think now his all-around game is so much more than just playing one position that I think when you’re recruiting him right now you’re trying to look at what you have. And then you can put him into a spot that you need, and he can literally can play part of one, two, three, four.”
