UConn assistant coach Andre LaFleur is leaving to become the associate head coach at Providence under Ed Cooley, according to GoLocalProv.com.
Reached by text, LaFleur said he could not confirm the move and would be unavailable to speak until Monday.
The report says LaFleur could be introduced at Providence as early as Monday.
LaFleur became Director of Basketball Operations at UConn in 2001 and was elevated to an assistant coaching spot in 2004.
He helped UConn win the NCAA championship this season as the Huskies beat Butler in the national final.
He then flew with star guard Kemba Walker to Los Angeles for the Wooden Award presentation in which Jimmer Fredette won the award and Walker placed second.
Walker later declared for the NBA Draft.
UConn head coach Jim Calhoun has not confirmed that he would return next season, but his son, Jeff, told SNY.tv he expects his father back.
Rolando Lamb, father of freshman wing Jeremy Lamb, also told SNY.tv the family is considering having Jeremy test the NBA waters. Underclassmen have until May 8 to withdraw and return to campus if they don’t hire an agent.
