One guy who helped himself Wednesday at the Portsmouth Invitational was West Virginia’s Casey Mitchell.
“Casey shot it very well and if he continues he will help himself,” said one veteran NBA scout who was in attendance.
“I played pretty well,” the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Mitchell said by phone. “I talked to three people that worked on NBA staffs, the Rockets, Celtics and Thunder. They all gave me good feedback, told me to keep working hard. Just keep going and finishing out strong.
“They’ll get me in some workouts before the draft.”
The NBA Draft is set for June 23 in Newark.
With an NBA lockout looming if a new collective bargaining agreement can’t be reached until June 30, Mitchell, who averaged 13.6 points this season, said he’s also considered going overseas.
“We’re going to see that situation,” Mitchell said. “I have a lot of overseas people that want to sign me. We’ll see what it is with the NBA first and whatever the best situation is after that.”

1st things 1st, it being my first comment and all: I LOVE ZAGSBLOG. This is THEE best NYC slash Big East slash comprehensive College Basketball blog/news site I’ve come across!! Keep it up.
Secondly, Casey Mitchell is an idiot. As a WVU alum, I’ve watched the vast majority of his games as a Mountaineer. He is a me first chucker, and will be for as long as anyone will have him on their court. He needs to learn the game of basketball, and if he wasn’t able to do that under Huggs, he never will.
He will never play in the NBA, will get a cup of coffee in Europe, and will then be pumping gas somewhere in Savannah in about 2 years. If this kid had any moxie whatsoever he’d have been a 1st Team BE performer. There’s more to the game then chucking up 3s Pal. It was, and always will be, about his stat line. He could care less about winning.

Freedom of speech! But freedom to call another human being an idiot? To those who personally know and care about Casey Mithcell know the real deal. Kind and caring to everyone he is a winner! With a degree from WVU I highly doubt anyone will be pumping gas in Savannah and if so what is the shame in being a gas attenant? I would be more ashamed of being a name calling Alum. P.S> If you really knew Casey Mitchell you would know he really dislikes coffee!:)
