Bob Hurley’s St. Anthony Friars are now two wins from their fourth mythical national championship.
Junior guard Kyle Anderson scored 22 points and was named Most Valuable Player as St. Anthony won its 26th state title with a 75-28 victory over Cardinal McCarrick in the Non-Public B title game at the Poland Springs Arena in Toms River.
The Friars (31-0) — who knocked of previously unbeaten St. Patrick Wednesday in the North final — figure to be the top seed in the Tournament of Champions, which begins Tuesday.
Hurley’s teams have won 10 Tournament of Champions titles and 24 of St. Anthony’s 26 state crowns.
“Kevin [Boyle] and I talked about this,” Hurley said Wednesday. “It’s really the responsibility of the team team that wins the game [Wednesday] to continue to play well and not let this be the highest point of your season.”
