Marshon Brooks figures to present an interesting test case for the Big East coaches when they vote for the conference Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-5 senior wing from Providence leads the league in scoring in Big East games at 27.4 points per game and poured in a Big East-record 52 points in Wednesday’s 94-93 loss to Notre Dame.

Yet because the Friars (14-14) are just 3-12 in the Big East, Brooks may not get enough votes.

“Marshon Brooks probably is having the best year,” Louisville coach Rick Pitino said Thursday on the conference call. “He’s an outstanding player. He’s had the best year, but they’re not winning.”

NEW YORK — First Kevin Garnett moved from the West to the East.

Amar’e Stoudemire followed.

And now Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams have taken their talents to the Eastern Conference.

So, has the balance of power in the NBA shifted?

“Absolutely,” Stoudemire said Wednesday after the Knicks beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 114-108, in Anthony’s New York debut at Madison Square Garden. ‘Melo had a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds in his first game as a Knick.

NEW YORK –– Knicks owner Jim Dolan hasn’t taken questions from the media in four years, and he didn’t again on Wednesday.

What Dolan did say during the press conference to introduce Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups as the newest Knicks was that Isiah Thomas had nothing to do with the deal.

“While Isiah Thomas is a good friend of mine, a very good friend of mine, he was not at all involved in this process,” Dolan told a room full of several hundred media types. “He wasn’t advising me or telling me what to do in any way and any reports that imply that he was doing that are simply untrue and a fiction in somebody’s mind.”

UConn head coach Jim Calhoun will miss Thursday’s game against Marquette in order to attend the calling hours and memorial service in Nashua, N.H. for his sister-in-law, Eileen (McDevitt) Fucile, who passed away on Monday.

The No. 14 Huskies (20-6, 8-6 Big East) will host Marquette (16-11, 7-7) at the XL Center in Hartford.

Calhoun will also miss practice Wednesday.

Associate head coach George Blaney, who took over for Calhoun last season when Calhoun missed seven games due to health issues, will coach while Calhoun is away.
