Knicks Waive Azubuike, Buy Out Brewer

In an effort to tweak their roster for a playoff run, the Knicks on Monday waived injured guard Kelenna Azbuike and are close to buying out forward Corey Brewer.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Azbuike was originally acquired by New York on July 9, 2010 from the Golden State Warriors in the David Lee deal.

After undergoing knee surgery 16 months ago, he had not appeared in a game this season.

The Knicks will also buy our Brewer, the New York Post reported, citing an NBA source. Brewer came over from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Carmelo Anthony-Chauncey Billups deal.

The Knicks are expected to sign 6-11 big man Jared Jeffries once a roster spot opens up. Jeffries was dealt from the Knicks to the Houston Rockets last year in the Tracy McGrady trade.

Another big man target, Earl Barron, signed a 10-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Also, ESPN.com reported that the Washington Wizards bought out point guard Mike Bibby and that he’s “headed to Miami.”
