No UConn Postseason Ban, but Calhoun Suspended

(AP) — UConn coach Jim Calhoun was suspended by the NCAA for three games next season for recruiting violations committed under his watch, though the program dodged a major sanction when it was spared a postseason ban.

Calhoun was cited by the NCAA on Tuesday for failing to create an atmosphere of compliance within his program and was suspended for the first three Big East games during the 2011-12 season.

The NCAA also hit UConn with scholarship reductions for three academic years, recruiting restrictions, permanent disassociation of a booster and three years probation.

  • AZ,

The coach is not suspended… we call it a VACA.
    VACA baby.
    Vacation time.

NCAA EAST is a complete JOKE…west is rather upset. fo sho.

8 major violations and dozens of minor violations.
And NCAA East gives them a SLAP on the wrist.

The other school is very happy about the NON-penalities of Uconn. Kentucky is very happy and has the GREEN LIGHT.

  • And if the ZAG folks did not get it.

AZ,ZAG , was the first site to discuss the UConn issue.. PRIOR to the Breaking News.

    ZAG- the FIRST.

    Good Stuff AZ.

ps-take a look at the Johnies ranking article.

  • odd no mention of this on around the horn or PTI.

  • Boston.. yes, how quite it is.

And the NCAA East also had a Uconn and Tenn announcement inorder to move the attention AWAY from Uconn. (Nice–first Uconn news and next day Tenn news.)

The NCAA East has given the coaches and AD ..
    the GREEN LIGHT to CHEAT.

Want a 10day vacation.. GO CHEAT.
there is no penality for such cheating.

We were surprised that the AD was not FIRED or resigned. But, we hope the internal NCAA investigation into those handling Uconn case are properly let-go. The NCAA made a huge mistake and ncaa ppl need to let-go.
    U know.

  • now i am confused….

PTI had a bit on tenneessee…..but no mention of uconn and calhoun.

    why?

  • This is NOT a SHOCKER.
The nex time to follow the UConn non-sanction penalities will be Kensucky.

    YES. YES.
The GREEN LIGHT of the NCAA East is well received

    WHY???

    The TRUTH be TOLD….

The honeymoon with Cali is over.
The second year and his team is HORRIBLE.
Just a bunch of freshmen and not even a TOP25 team.

Will kensucky make the tournament??? as a No.12 seed.

    NOT a top25 team.

With the new NCAA East GREEN LIGHT on cheating…
Kensucky has no choice but, to put give the coach a 10 day vacation. (3 game vacation.)

    UConn’s non-sanction penality.
Time to FIRE the NCAA EAST officials!
    Effective Immediately

  • “THE NCAA EAST” (WHATEVER THAT IS) GIVES THE GREENLIGHT ON CHEATING YET THE UNIVERSITY OF CAL JUST GOT PUT ON 2-YEAR PROBATION FOR TOO MANY UNAUTHORIZED PHONE CALLS TO RECRUITS……PAC 10 STRIKES AGAIN!
