  • Chol Decision Impacts Desmond Hubert

    By ALEX KLINE

Angelo Chol’s decision to attend Arizona could have a direct impact on New Egypt (N.J.) big man Desmond Hubert.

The 6-foot-9 Hubert is down to North Carolina and Maryland.

Had Chol picked the Tar Heels instead of the Wildcats during his Thursday press conference at San Diego Herbert Hoover High, Hubert might have headed to Maryland by default.

Instead, Hubert is still considering both schools.

Asked what he planned to do now, Hubert said, “I’m not sure. I’m going to see if I can take a visit to UNC.”

Hubert is averaging 16.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 9.1 blocks, according to MaxPreps.com

With three official visits remaining, Hubert could visit after the season. His team plays Life Center Thursday night and could play at least four more games depending on how the state tournament plays out.

Hubert, who took an official to Maryland on Halloween weekend, tripped unofficially to Chapel Hill last fall and enjoyed it.

With his college plans up in the air, Hubert is focused on the immediate future for now.

“I’m just trying to focus on my season now,” he said.

    • Whittington and Breunig will do as fine as Hubert – all good kids with solid intensity/fundamentals. Hubert’s offensive skills need some work, and a more strength/conditioning for rail thin body. But nice timing with blocked shots – wow…

    • Looks like he wants to be a Tar Heel – if so, best of luck to him. I hope my fellow Terp fans can show so class if he does.

    • Can I hang out with you guys? No Woody, no Jessie, no Bostoncat.
