Next Thursday will mark the one-year anniversary of DePaul’s last Big East win.

Since a victory over Marquette on Jan. 20, 2010, the Blue Demons have lost 17 straight Big East games, including Wednesday’s 78-67 home loss to Seton Hall.

DePaul is 1-39 in its last 40 Big East games.

“There are moments of frustration for me and really I felt like a game like last night could’ve been a turning point for us because we had been playing progressively better in the Big East,” first-year head coach Oliver Purnell said on Thursday’s conference call.

In his first game since suffering a broken wrist and a gunshot wound, Jeremy Hazell exceeded expectations.

The Seton Hall senior guard scored 23 points on 10 of 17 shooting in the Pirates’ 78-67 win Wednesday night at DePaul.

“I didn’t know I was going to play this game,” Hazell said. “I thought I was going to play two games after this, probably against Georgetown (Jan. 18), but I’m just happy I played (tonight).

“I was just happy to get back with my team. When they told me I could play, there was no holding back.”

UNION, N.J. — St. Patrick senior guards Michael Gilchrist and Derrick Gordon have already signed with colleges, Kentucky and Western Kentucky, respectively.

Yet college coaches will continue to flock to see the Celtics over the next few years because of their abundance of big, young talent.

Dakari Johnson is a mobile, athletic 6-foot-10 freshman whom head coach Kevin Boyle believes can grow to 7-feet or 7-2.

When I spoke to Johnson after St. Patrick’s 73-65 victory over St. Benedict’s Sunday at Kean University, he listed Syracuse, Kentucky, Georgetown and Villanova as schools that have already shown interest.

“Syracuse is my favorite school,” he told Alex Kline in another interview.

Seton Hall senior guard Jeremy Hazell has been cleared to play in tonight’s Big East game at DePaul (9 p.m., SNY), according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation.

The school has yet to make an official announcement as to whether he will play, but one source said the 6-foot-5 Hazell was doing “form shooting” during the team’s shootaround Wednesday.

Several other sources said Hazell was definitely going to play for Seton Hall (7-9, 1-3 Big East).
