The Big East Conference named Georgetown guard Austin Freeman and Providence guard Gerard Coleman the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week ending Jan. 23.
Freeman captures Big East Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career after scoring a game-high 28 points to lead Georgetown to an 80-75 win at Seton Hall in the Hoyas’ only game of the week.
He shot 10-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Freeman made all five of his free throw attempts, pulled down five rebounds and dealt three assists while committing only one turnover in 35 minutes. Freeman, who is from Mitchellville, Md., is averaging 18.5 ppg, which ranks third in the Big East.
Coleman notches Big East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after scoring a career-high 19 points in a 72-67 victory over No. 19/15 Louisville in the Friars’ only contest of the week.
He shot 7-of-12 from the floor, grabbed three rebounds, dished three assists and made two steals. PC’s perimeter defense helped force Louisville into 4-of-23 shooting from 3-point range. A native of Boston, Mass., Coleman is averaging 11.3 ppg this season.

Averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor in wins over Syracuse and DePaul.
Marshon Brooks, Providence, F, Sr.
Scored a game-high 27 points in a 72-67 victory over Louisville in the Friars’ only game of the week. He was 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
Corey Fisher, Villanova, G, Sr.
Averaged 22.0 points and 6.5 assists in a 1-1 week against two 10 teams on the road.
