St. Ben’s Tyler Ennis Getting Major Looks

NEW YORK — Tyler Ennis has only been at St. Benedict’s Prep for a few weeks, but he’s already made a big splash.

The 6-foot-2 Canadian sophomore point guard has pulled interest from Kentucky, Florida, Arizona State, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Virginia Tech.

“Rutgers offered,” he said at halftime of the Notre Dame-St. John’s game, which he’s attending with assistant coach Billy Diamond and a group of teammates.

Seton Hall also offered, Diamond said.

Asked how all the attention felt, he said, “It feels good because that’s what I’ve been waiting for since I started high school.”

After consulting with Texas freshman, fellow Canadian and former St. Ben’s star Tristan Thompson, Ennis transferred to St. Benedict’s midseason and quickly dished 14 assists in a win over The Peddie School.

“They were looking for a pure point and that’s what I am so it’s a good fit,” Ennis said.

He played well against St. Patrick last week at Kean University, scoring 14 points and dishing 4 assists, in front of Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua, Georgetown head coach John Thompson III, Rutgers head coach Mike Rice, Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard and St. Joe’s coach Phil Martelli.
