  • Paige to North Carolina

Marcus Paige, the No. 5 point guard in the Class of 2012 out of Marion (Iowa) Linn-Mar, announced that he will play for North Carolina.

Paige is a 5-foot-11, 150-pound left-hander who hails from the same state as current Carolina frosh Harrison Barnes.

He reportedly also had offers from Kansas, UCLA, Illinois, Iowa and Iowa State.

Here’s the press release he gave to the Des Moines Register.

“I would like to thank all the coaches across the country who have taken the time to recruit me to be a part of their basketball program. The recruiting process has been exciting for me and my family.

At this time I would like to announce that I have accepted a scholarship offer from Coach Roy Williams to continue my career as a student athlete at the University of North Carolina. The decision process has been difficult and the deciding factors for me include:

    — The great relationship that I have developed with Coach Williams and his staff.

    — The history and tradition of North Carolina Basketball.

    — Having the opportunity to play for a National Championship.”

    • Kansas does not need Paige, with a baller like Naadir Tharpe coming in. Good luck at unc though, you shoulda went to UCLA. Tar heels still seem to be in re-building mode and lack physical toughness. Its gonna take more than 150 lbs. to do work in ACC. Better bulk up quick like.
