Sherron Collins to the D-League

Charlotte Bobcats guard Sherron Collins is the latest NBA player sent to the NBA Development League.

The former Kansas star was assigned to the Maine Red Claws, Charlotte’s D-League affiliate, where he will join former Syracuse star Paul Harris and former Oklahoma standout Tiny Gallon.

The assignment marks the 17th time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate.

The 5-11, 205-pound Collins has appeared in 12 regular season games for the Bobcats, who signed him as an undrafted free agent. Collins averaged 12.5 points and 2.8 assists for Charlotte in four 2010 NBA Summer League games.

The winningest basketball player in Kansas history, Collins helped lead the Jayhawks to 130 victories over four years, including the 2008 NCAA national championship. In 143 games, Collins averaged 13.2 points and 3.9 assists, and was a consensus All-American as a junior and  senior.

Collins joins the Red Claws in anticipation of the team’s back-to-back games at Erie on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11.  Bobcats fans can keep track of Collins and the Red Claws by logging onto NBA.com/dleague to watch every game live, online, for free.

WATKINS TO LEBANON

Former Syracuse and Paterson (N.J.) Catholic standout Darryl “Mookie” Watkins is currently playing in Lebanon for Sagesse – Al Hekmeh Beirut . The 6-11 Watkins previously played in China in 2008-09.

“He’s been there for a few weeks now,” agent Mark Bartelstein said. “He’s playing real well.”
