Pelle to Visit St. John’s; Cook to Announce Thursday

Norvel Pelle, the No. 2 center in the Class of 2011 out of Los Angeles Price High School, will visit St. John’s this weekend.

“Norvel is going to visit St. John’s this weekend,” his sister, Cherisa, said by text.

This will be his first official visit.

The 6-foot-10, 210-pound Pelle said in a recent interview that he’s also considering Washington, UCLA, UTEP and Oregon.

St. John’s has a five-man recruiting class for 2011 of Maurice Harkless, JaKarr Sampson, D’Angelo Harrison, Dominick Pointer and Nurideen Lindsey. Jevon Thomas, a 2012 point guard, has also committed.

The Johnnies have five scholarships still to give for 2011.

The NCAA early signing period runs Nov. 10-17.

COOK TO ANNOUNCE THURSDAY

As first reported on my Twitter, Oak Hill point guard Quinn Cook will announce Thursday.

“Thursday,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said by text.

As reported here Monday, Cook is expected to announce for Duke or UCLA.

“I know it’s UCLA or Duke,” Smith said Monday. “I don’t know which one.”
