NEW YORK — Mount Vernon point guard Jabarie Hinds made his college announcement Tuesday in the SNY.tv studio in Manhattan.

“I made my final decision and I’ll be heading to West Virginia University, the Mountaineers,” said the 6-foot, 170-pound Hinds, the No. 26 point guard in the Class of 2011 according to Rivals.

Hinds, who averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 steals and 4.0 rebounds last season and has scored more than 1,000 points in his Mount Vernon career, chose the Mountaineers over UConn, UNLV and UCLA.

Lance Stephenson will have to wait for his day in court.

The Pacers rookie guard appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court Tuesday morning because he is accused of pushing his girlfriend, Jasmine Williams, down a flight of stairs, but the court date was pushed back to Feb. 25, 2011.

“Nothing of any consequence in court,” texted Alberto Ebanks, his attorney. “New date, that’s all.”

The Pacers had no immediate comment.

The recruits keep rolling in for St. John’s first-year coach Steve Lavin.

Nurideen Lindsey, 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard from Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla., became the fifth Lavin commit when he made a verbal pledge Monday night.

“I decided to take my talents to New York and play for Coach Lav at St. John’s,” Lindsey wrote by text.

“There’s too many different things I liked about them, but for the most part the coaching staff is full of great guys.”

Lindsey will finish up at Redlands next spring and have three years of eligibility remaining at St. John’s.

West Virginia picked up two key commitments Monday, landing pledges from Aurora, Illinois point guard Ryan Boatright and Brunswick, Ohio big man Pat Forsythe.

Boatright initially committed to then-Southern Cal coach Tim Floyd as an 8th-grader, but has now landed on the opposite side of the country.

The 5-foot-10 Boatright announced Monday that he will attend West Virginia, choosing the Mountaineers over Providence and Miami. He visited Providence and West Virginia in the last two weeks.

“I’m taking my talents elsewhere, to West Virginia,” Boatright said at East Aurora High School, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Dominick Pointer became the fourth member of Steve Lavin’s vaunted 2011 recruiting class when he committed to St. John’s on Monday.

Pointer, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing, is the No. 21 small forward in the Class of 2011, per Rivals. Originally from Detroit, he plays for Winston-Salem (N.C.) Quality Education.

“What made me choose St. John’s was the smaller classrooms,” Pointer, who this summer legally changed the spelling of his first name from Dominique, said by phone. “I’m cool with Coach Lavin. He made me feel comfortable on my visit.”
