It turns Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon is more than a basketball coach.

While driving home Saturday night after the Rutgers-Pittsburgh football game, Dixon witnessed a car that was swerving several cars in front of him.

According to a report on WPXI.com, the vehicle flipped over while travelling outbound on I-279 North near the Mcknight Road exit, hit a barrier and landed on its side in the road.

After witnessing the accident, Dixon pulled over to help get the victims out of the car.

One person remained trapped in the car while the other fled the scene, according to police.

This has turned into a big recruiting weekend for Xavier and head coach Chris Mack.

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, the No. 3 shooting guard in the Class of 2012 out of Indianapolis North Central, committed to Xavier during a campus visit.

“D’Vauntes chose X for a lot of reasons,” Kelana Rivera, Smith-Rivera’s mother, told Jeff Borzello of NBE Basketball. “One, that they believe in him so much and he believes in them. The pieces that they are putting together will be exciting. After all the campuses and coaches that D has seen, X feels like home to him. There are lots more reasons, but that’s the gist of it.”

The story was broken by Alex Kline at The Recruit Scoop.

Elijah Carter‘s official visit to UCLA has been “pushed back,” according to a source with knowledge.

It remains unclear when the 6-foot-2 Carter will visit UCLA.  He was supposed to visit Sunday-Tuesday and then trip to Oregon State Halloween weekend.

On Saturday, Carter is slated to take an unofficial visit to Seton Hall for the “Meet the Team” event that is expected to draw much young local talent, including Isaiah Lewis of Christ the King and Terrence Samuel of Brooklyn South Shore. Yet because he has the flu, Carter may skip that trip.

NEW YORK — Despite all the Carmelo Anthony talk swirling around the Knicks just a few days before the season opener Wednesday in Toronto, the players say they aren’t distracted.

“Those types of conversations happen all the time,” shooting guard Roger Mason said Saturday. “So as a player you don’t really concern yourself with it. We all feel really good about the team we have. Pretty talented, pretty deep. And we’re excited for the season. So I don’t think anybody in the locker room really worries about it.”

NBA Commissioner David Stern on Friday promised that a new collective bargaining agreement will get “done” and admitted that the talk of potential contraction was more rhetorical than anything.

“We know we’re going to get an agreement done,” he said on a conference call initially marred by crank callers.

“We think that the enthusiasm of the season and the prospective growth that it will ultimately represent will enable us to sit down with the players and negotiate in good faith. We both seem intent on doing all that we can to reach a deal.”

David Stern may have gotten Howard Sterned.

OK, so it may not have been Howard Stern’s people who interrupted Stern’s conference call Friday with reporters.

But a caller who identified himself as Bob Yates and said he was associated with the Kidd Chris radio program out of Portland, Ore., started off the call by asking Stern an indelicate question about Greg Oden.

“Commissioner, pleasure to speak with you, Mr. Stern. Can you address the controversy in Portland, Ore.? Apparently, Kidd Chris from the Kidd Chris morning radio show at KUFO pulled a hamstring looking at Greg Oden’s penis pictures. Any comment on that?”
