Two of the top prospects in the Class of 2011 visited UCLA this weekend when Oak Hill point guard Quinn Cook and Memphis Melrose wing Adonis Thomas hit Los Angeles.

“It was a great visit,” the 6-foot-6, 215-pound Thomas, the No. 6 small forward in the class, said by phone. “I got a chance to just really enjoy L.A., see how people live in L.A. I got a tour of the city and saw the campus. It was a big campus. I got a chance to meet the trainers and academic people so that was great. Just seeing the history of UCLA was great.”

Cook, the No. 7 point guard in the class, also said by text the visit “went well.”

Thomas said the two of them spoke about potentially playing together and how they might fit in at UCLA.

PISCATAWAY, N.J.Austin Johnson could be in for a long season in the Big East.

A very long season.

With the departures of Hamady N’Diaye, Brian Okam and Greg Echenique, Johnson is the lone remaining big man on the Rutgers roster and figures to start at center when the team opens with an exhibition game against McGill Nov. 1.

“All the true big men left so I guess I have to take on their responsibility, which I’m not too upset about because it presents the opportunity for me to play a lot of minutes,” Johnson, a sophomore, said Friday at the RAC.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP)  — A former Seton Hall basketball player has pleaded guilty in an armed robbery at a house near the school’s northern New Jersey campus.

Robert “Stix” Mitchell, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., pleaded guilty Friday to criminal restraint and burglary charges.

Mitchell admitted entering the private home in South Orange on March 15 to purchase marijuana.

Coaches from Duke, UCLA, Kansas, West Virginia, Syracuse, Pitt and Louisville have also been in.

‘[His recruitment] is at the highest level,” Todd Quarles, Ledo’s AAU coach with Expressions Elite, said by phone.
