Desmond Hubert, a 6-9 forward from New Egypt, N.J. High, has trimmed his list to five schools.

Hubert is considering Villanova, Princeton, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Maryland, he confirmed by text.

His only official so far will be to Maryland over Halloween weekend. Seton Hall Prep point guard Sterling Gibbs, who has committed to Maryland, will also visit that weekend.

Mount Vernon (N.Y.) senior point guard Jabarie Hinds says the penalties against the UConn men’s basketball program won’t impact his college decision.

“Not at all,” he said by text.

“I’m still considering them.”

The 5-foot-11 Hinds is considering UConn, UNLV and West Virginia, which he visits next weekend.

He previously told ZAGSBLOG UConn was “No. 1 on his list.”

UConn on Friday said its program committed major NCAA recruiting violations. The school has imposed its own sanctions, including two years’ probation and a loss of one scholarship for the next two seasons.

Jarelle Reischel, a 6-foot-6, 204-pound wing from Point Pleasant Beach (N.J.) High, has shuffled his visits a bit.

Having already visited Rice officially, Reischel will visit Seton Hall Oct. 14, Georgetown Oct. 21, Penn State Oct. 30 and Temple at a date TBD.

“They’re all kind of equal,” he said Friday by phone. “I visited all of them unofficially. I’ll get a better feel for which school will lead after I take my official visits.”

Reischel was born in Hamburg, Germany because his father, Terry Carter, who was born on Long Island, was in the military. He is currently stationed in Kuwait.

St. John’s coach Steve Lavin has embarked upon his cross-country recruiting tour and spent Thursday in Las Vegas visiting Amir Garrett before visiting Dominick Pointer today (Friday).

“They came by campus,” Findlay Prep assistant coach Todd Simon said of Lavin and assistant Rico Hines.

The 6-foot-7 Garrett cut his list to St. John’s and Oregon and then Tweeted he had made his decision. Simon said his recruitment is still unfolding.

“Both Oregon and St. John’s have many scholarships to give so I imagine both will stay on him,” Simon said.

Jabari Brown is an Oregon Duck.

The 6-foot-5 Brown, the No. 5 shooting guard in the Class of 2011 according to Rivals, chose the Ducks over Arizona State, Georgia Tech, UConn and Washington.

“Next year I will be playing at Oregon University for Coach [Dana] Altman and his staff,” Brown, an Oakland, Calif. native, told ESPNU as he slipped on a green Ducks hat.

“Oregon landed me because they were the best fit for me. Coach Altman and his staff did a great job of recruiting me, making me feel at home, feeling comfortable. My visit was great. And they told me everything that I think I needed to hear out of a school.”

True story.

A couple of years ago, my wife and I were in the Morrison Hotel Gallery on Prince Street in New York and this iconic Frank Stefanko photo of a young Bruce Springsteen was going for $1,500 or $2,000 a pop. I can’t remember which.

Avid rock fans and supporters of the Morrison Gallery, we own several iconic photos of Neil Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, Jerry Garcia and Bob Dylan and George Harrison.

We thought long and hard but just couldn’t pull the trigger on the Springsteen photo at that amount.
