Elijah Carter‘s official visit to UCLA has been “pushed back,” according to a source with knowledge.
It remains unclear when the 6-foot-2 Carter will visit UCLA. He was supposed to visit Sunday-Tuesday and then trip to Oregon State Halloween weekend.
On Saturday, Carter is slated to take an unofficial visit to Seton Hall for the “Meet the Team” event that is expected to draw much young local talent, including Isaiah Lewis of Christ the King and Terrence Samuel of Brooklyn South Shore. Yet because he has the flu, Carter may skip that trip.
On Friday night Carter dropped 27 points in a 96-95 loss to Boys & Girls in the Is8 playoffs.
Having missed out on Mount Vernon’s Jabarie Hinds and other targets, the Bruins focused on Carter, who plays at Brewster (N.H.) Academy.
Eric Harrield, Carter’s coach with the Sports University AAU program, said Carter’s list now includes UCLA, Seton Hall, Charlotte, Oregon State and Rhode Island.
He is due to visit Oregon State Halloween weekend.
UCLA is also involved with Oak Hill point guard Quinn Cook, who’s also looking at Duke and Villanova.
“[UCLA] coach [Ben] Howland is a great coach,” Cook told ESPN.com. “His past four point guards have been NBA players and he wins; he had three straight Final Fours.”
BOATRIGHT DECOMMITS FROM WEST VIRGINIA
On Monday, Aurora, Ill., point guard Ryan Boatright committed to West Virginia.
On Tuesday, Hinds committed to the Mountaineers on SNY.tv.
And on Friday, Boatright decommitted from Bob Huggins‘ program.
“He did decommit,” Ryan’s mother Tanesha told the Chicago Sun-Times. “But we don’t have any comment right now. We are thinking about it and trying to accept it as a family.”
Last season Boatright averaged 26.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists.
During his commitment on SNY, Hinds said the two could coexist and prosper.
“It will really help a lot,” he said. “Trying to go there and win a national championship, you can’t do it by yourself. You need other players around you. So that should be a good thing.”
