Woods to Louisville; WVU’s Mitchell Suspended

Former Wake Forest junior center Tony Woods has decided to transfer to Louisville in January, according to a source with direct knowledge.

Woods would become eligible in December 2011 for his junior year.

Norman Parker, Woods’ AAU coach with the Georgia Stars, was not immediately available for comment.

The 6-foot-11, 250-pound Woods was suspended indefinitely on September 13 after being arrested on assault charges. He requested his release to pursue other options.

Woods can’t sign a Letter of Intent and there’s nothing stopping him from visiting other schools, but the source said Louisville will take him if he wants to come there.

Woods played in all 31 games last season as Wake Forest compiled a 20-11 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds.

WEST VIRGINIA’S MITCHELL SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said senior Casey Mitchell has been suspended indefinitely from the team for violating team rules.

Huggins made the announcement Friday night.

The 6-foot-4 guard from Savannah, Ga., averaged 3.7 points per game last season for the Mountaineers, who reached the Final Four for the first time since 1959.
