Back from UCLA, Cook Eyes Duke, ‘Nova

Quinn Cook is back from his official to UCLA and plans to visit Duke and Villanova this month, while also taking home visits this week from Villanova and Kansas.

“It was cool,” the Oak Hill point guard said of UCLA. “I had a lot of fun.”

Cook shared the visit with Memphis wing Adonis Thomas, whom we profiled here.

“When we’re together, we don’t really talk about basketball,” Cook said. “The whole world saw us play together on the USA [U17] team [that won gold in Hamburg, Germany].”

Next up for Cook is an official to Duke Oct. 15, where he will join Duke-bound guard Austin Rivers. For more on Cook and Duke, read here.

Cook also trips to Villanova Oct. 22.

He said Villanova’s coaches were supposed to visit him last Thursday at Oak Hill, but he couldn’t do it because of the UCLA visit.

“I think he [Villanova coach Jay Wright] will be up here sometimes this week,” he said. “They were one of the first schools to recruit me since my freshman year. I have a good relationship with those guys.”

Villanova already has an incoming point guard in New Jersey native Tyrone Johnson, who announced his commitment on SNY.tv in July.

“Coach Wright is famous for having two point guards at the same time,” Cook said. “You’ll see that this year with Maalik Wayns and Corey Fisher playing together.

“I can definitely see playing with Tyrone. I’m not as close with Tyrone as I am with Adonis and all those guys, but from what I know he’s a heck of a player.”

Kansas is also in the hunt, but no visit date has been set.

“I’m not sure because our season is about to start,” Cook said. “There’s not really an open weekend that I have yet. Hopefully I can get there.”

He added: “We really haven’t established a relationship because they just got into it. They’ll be up to see me this week.”

In the meantime, UCLA, Duke and Villanova top the list.

“I think all three respectfully are showing me a lot of love and attention, telling me how bad they need me,” he said. “Just all three are doing a wonderful job recruiting me.”

As for his injured knee, Cook said he’s feeling “way better” because “the swelling went down.”

He plans to continue rehabbing in anticipation of Oak Hill’s season opener Oct. 30.
