Hanner Perea, a 6-foot-8, 212-pound power forward originally from Colombia, verbally committed to Indiana over Baylor Sunday after a visit to campus.

“Oh, yes I did,” Perea, the No. 4 power forward in the Class of 2012, said by phone.

“I like them,” he added. “The No. 1 thing I like about it is the coach. All the coaching staff and Coach [Tom] Crean. I love the way he coach everything. I love the way he is. I like the team.”

Perea, out of La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere School, joins 6-2 shooting guard Ron Patterson and 6-11 center Peter Jurkin among Hoosiers’ recruits for 2012.

NEW YORK Greg Oden will become the first No. 1 overall pick since Kwame Brown not to receive a contract extension.

The Oregonian reported Friday that the Blazers and Oden’s representatives agreed there would be no extension, making the oft-injured center the first top pick since Brown not to get one at the end of his rookie contract. Teams have until Monday to reach deals with first-round picks from the 2007 draft.

“I don’t read it,” Portland coach Nate McMillan said before Saturday’s Blazers-Knicks game. “I don’t hear it. I don’t even think about it. We’re focused on basketball. [Blazers GM] Rich Cho will handle contract situations. Greg is focused just trying to get himself back on the court.”

Things are moving fast and furious tonight in the world of college hoops recruiting….

**First off, Norvel Pelle told me tonight by phone that he plans to visit St. John’s and Washington, but didn’t have the specific dates nailed down.

“I’m starting visits next week,” he said.

The NCAA early signing period runs Nov. 10-17 and Pelle said he hoped to take “two or three” visits before it ends.

The 6-foot-10, 210-pound big man out of Los Angeles Price said he’s also considering UTEP, UCLA and Oregon. He has been to UCLA on an unofficial but not to the other schools.

Perry Ellis, the No. 6 power forward in the Class of 2012, is looking to cut his list before his season starts in early December, according to his mother, Fonda Ellis.

“He’s trying to narrow it down to 5 or 7 by the time the season starts,” she said Saturday by phone.

The 6-foot-8, 224-pound Perry said his list currently includes Memphis, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Texas A&M, North Carolina and Wichita State.

Iowa and Wake Forest have also offered and his mother said Georgetown, UCLA, Miami and Stanford are also interested.

NEW YORK (AP)LeBron James and Chris Bosh headed for South Beach, while Amar’e Stoudemire decided to star on Broadway.

Allen Iverson? He’s headed for Turkey.

“My whole thing was being wanted, being accepted by a ballclub. That was the most important thing,” the former NBA MVP said Friday, after signing a $4 million, two-year contract with Turkish club Besiktas during a news conference at the upscale St. Regis Hotel in Manhattan.

“I had a great time playing in the NBA. Who knows if I ever will again?” Iverson said. “But I wanted to show everybody I can play at a high level, not just the NBA.”
