Revamped Knicks Shooting for Playoffs

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – When the Knicks begin training camp here on Saturday, the roster will feature 10 new players from last year’s team that won just 29 games.

The star attraction is forward Amar’e Stoudemire, who signed a five-year, $99.7 million deal in the offseason and boldly proclaimed, “The Knicks are back.”

The Knicks also brought in point guard Raymond Felton, 7-foot-1 Russian center Timofey Mozgov and three players in the David Lee trade, athletic forward Anthony Randolph, big man Ronny Turiaf and shooting guard Kelenna Azubuike, who will miss the start of camp while rehabbing from patellar tendon surgery last November. The average age of the team is 24.6.

The Knicks are young, athletic and unproven but president Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D’Antoni believe they have the potential to make the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
