Nadal, Federer Keep Dream Final Alive

NEW YORK — The U.S. Open men’s semifinals are now set, and Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are each one win away from the dream final the tennis world has long awaited.

Despite the swirling winds that have impacted play for the last two days, top-seeded Nadal cruised into Saturday’s semifinals with a 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 victory over fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, the No. 8 seed and the man who pushed Nadal to five sets in an epic 2009 Australian Open semifinal matchup.

Nadal will next face Russian Mikhail Youzhny, who posted a thrilling 3-6, 7-6 (7), 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 25 Stan Wawrinka earlier in Arthur Ashe Stadium. The match lasted exactly four hours.
