    Shannon Brown’s agent says the Lakers guard will likely stay with Los Angeles instead of joining the Knicks.

    “I don’t think he’s going to wind up in New York,” Mark Bartelstein said Wednesday night. “The Knicks did a great job. I don’t think it’s going to be in New York. It doesn’t have anything to do with the Knicks. It has everything has to do with what the Lakers have to offer.”

    Bartelstein said the 6-4 Brown would make a final announcement Thursday.

    “At the end of the day I don’t think he’s going to wind up going there [to New York] but we’ll know for sure tomorrow,” Bartelstein said.

    Articles, Hofstra, Michigan State, Villanova

    Darrun Hilliard, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Liberty (Pa.) High, is headed to Villanova beginning in 2011.

    Hilliard chose the Wildcats over Notre Dame, Seton Hall, Iowa, Michigan and Boston College.

    “I loved how they treated each other,” Hilliard said by text. “It’s like a big family up there, a home away from home and I really loved that their tradition is also great. I will have a great career after graduation from Villanova either on or off the court.”

    Hilliard averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists last season while leading the Hurricanes to their first appearance in the Pennsylvania Class 4A semifinals.

    Kentucky, Ohio State, Syracuse

    A completely unsubstantiated report from the Chicago Sun-Times alleges that Kentucky paid $200,000 to get Anthony Davis, a 6-foot-10 rising senior from Chicago Perspectives Charter.

    “We haven’t asked anyone for anything and no one has offered us anything,” Anthony Davis Sr. told the paper.

    Davis Sr. did not answer a phonecall or text message Wednesday afternoon.

    Jevon Maymon, Davis”s AAU coach, said by text, “I don’t know anything about this.”

    The Sun-Times offered no concrete evidence or proof that Kentucky paid for Davis, who burst onto the national scene this spring and summer after growing eight inches in the last year.

    The paper cited “rumors/sources” on its Website, offering no evidence of the payment.

    Arizona, Boston College, Kansas, Oregon, St. Patrick, Wake Forest

    Amir Garrett is one of the top small forwards in the Class of 2011 and he’s currently planning out his schedule of visits.

    “He’s going to officially visit Kansas, Miami and Boston College,” Garrett’s coach, Matt Goren, said Wednesday by phone.

    The 6-foot-6 Garrett has already visited St. John’s and Boston College unofficially.

    Goren said Oregon, Wake Forest, Arizona State, Seattle and San Diego State were also involved.

    “But right now I’m open,” Garrett recently told Wildcat Sports Report. “I want to listen to what the college coaches have to say.”

    New Jersey Nets, Old Knicks

    The Nets will face Chinese center Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets for two games in October in Beijing and Guangzhou, China.

    The Rockets and Nets will tip off on Oct. 13 in Beijing at the 17,012-seat Wukesong Arena, and will meet again on Oct. 16 at the 17,773-seat Guangzhou International Sports Arena. This will be the third consecutive year the NBA will play a game at the state-of-the-art Wukesong Arena, home to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

    “This event will give our great fans in China an authentic NBA experience with two live games in state-of-the-art arenas,” said NBA China CEO Tim Chen.  “We will work closely with the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), the local basketball associations, and all of our partners in China to create events and basketball development programs that will reach fans well beyond the games.”
