Gilchrist Ready to Recruit Davis to UK

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.Michael Gilchrist didn’t know Kentucky was recruiting 6-10 forward Anthony Davis until he learned it from reporters Tuesday morning.

Now that he knows, Gilchrist joked that he’s ready to help recruit Davis to the Wildcats.

“Oh, for real,” Gilchrist said after scoring 26 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in Team Final’s 60-54 victory over Mean Streets at the Peach Jam. “I didn’t know. I gotta get on him, huh?

“ASAP, huh?”

The No. 1 player in the Class of 2011, Gilchrist played on two and a half hours sleep after flying in from Hamburg, Germany Monday night after he and fellow Kentucky recruit Marquis Teague helped the USA U17 team win the gold medal.

“I didn’t want to get up but [Team Final coach] Rob Brown made me,” Gilchrist joked.

After getting to the court for a 9 a.m. game, Kentucky head coach John Calipari and assistant Orlando Antigua sat courtside to watch the 6-foot-8, 240-pound Gilchrist take on Davis’ team in front of a slew of college coaches.

Davis, out of Chicago Perspectives Charter, says his top three consists of Kentucky, Syracuse and Ohio State.  Ohio State head coach Thad Matta and Syracuse assistant Rob Murphy also watched the game.

Davis, who finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds in the loss, said he plans to visit his top three before potentially visiting other schools, like North Carolina, which may soon offer.

Could Davis, the No. 8 player in the Class of 2011, end up joining No. 1 Gilchrist and No. 5 Teague at Kentucky?

Sounds like Gilchrist is ready to help make it happen.

“He’s really good,” Gilchrist said.

  • go get’em mike! awesome game.

  • Davis should read TMZ before signing with Kentucky – unless he wants to play for a school on NCAA probation.

  • maybe you should read TMZ again and realize there was exactly ZERO details in that “report”. mostly likely generated from previous false reports or from bitter coaches.

  • Just ask Oklahoma and Tiny Gallon about TMZ.

Only a matter of time before UK becomes Calipari’s third team on probation.

  • read the oklahoma piece…it contained those pesky little items called “details”. something that was not present on the UK report. of course that doesn’t interest you. you have an agenda or are just stupid. feel free to pick which one.

its been over a year since i head “only a matter of time” and all the other witty comments.

i’m sure you will be right about something sooner or later. just wont be this. its great seeing people like yourself get your hopes up though.

  • Dr. DICK;
Your screen name is most appropriate!!!!

  • You keep dreaming, DrDick. Maybe wishful thinking will make it all come true!

Now (ahem) you know very well that the NCAA did not put UMass on probation. Why? Because sometimes – are you sitting down? – sometimes the fault lies with the player, not with the coach. Repeat that to yourself out loud. Eventually it will begin to make sense.

You also know perfectly well – don’t pretend otherwise – that Calipari wasn’t even implicated in those cases. You know that the NCAA made a point of clearing him. Yes, it is an inconvenient truth: The NCAA considers his record clean. But that doesn’t stop some people, present company included, from making unfounded assertions and dealing in innuendo.

Mike DeCourcy and Jay Bilas have spoken out against the rape of Calipari’s character these last two years. But it sounds like you’re eager to join in the gang bang. Feel good about that?
