Seton Hall forward Herb Pope was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, N.J., after collapsing during an on-campus workout Wednesday afternoon.
A team source who was with Pope at the hospital said he was uncertain what triggered the collapse.
“A student-athlete has been taken to the hospital,” a university spokesman confirmed to ZAGSBLOG.com.
According to a report from the school newspaper, The Setonian, the 6-foot-8 Pope “was carried out of the Rec Center around 4:10 p.m. this afternoon, according to footage from video cameras at WSOU-FM and eyewitness sources.”
The 6-foot-8 forward from Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God Academy committed Wednesday to N.C. State, picking the Wolfpack over Kentucky and UConn.
“I’m going to N.C. State,” Leslie, the No. 4 power forward in the Class of 2010, told NewsObserver.com. “It is a great school and we can be good there. And obviously, Coach [Sidney] Lowe is a great coach.”
Leslie visited UConn this past weekend and also considered Kentucky, where close friend Brandon Knight has committed.
If the Seton Hall basketball team has a distinctly European feel to it next year, don’t be surprised.
The Pirates are involved with Torgrim Sommerfeldt, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Norway, and Ozan Dilik, a 6-4 point guard from Turkey.
Sommerfeldt visited the South Orange, N.J. campus last weekend and will likely choose from among Seton Hall, Rutgers, FDU and Florida International in the coming weeks.
“It looks like Rutgers or Seton Hall,” said Matt Fisher, Sommerfeldt’s Baltimore-based mentor. “He had a great visit at Seton Hall. They blew him away. Those guys are pretty impressive.”
“Word is Jordan backed out,” the team source said.
A second source close to the 76ers indicated Jordan wanted to keep his NBA options open. With several job openings looming, Jordan hopes to remain in the pros.
“With the climate around the league, there’s potentially a lot of jobs going to be open in the NBA,” the 76ers source said.
With Terrence Ross already headed to Washington, can the Huskies expect his Portland (Ore.) Jefferson teammate Terrence Jones to join him?
Both players will formally announce their college plans Friday at a 6:30 ET press conference at Portland Jefferson.
As first reported by ZAGSBLOG Sunday night, the 6-foot-5 Ross (pictured courtesy the Seattle Times) has already opted for Washington over Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon and Oklahoma.
“I am going to Washington because of the great relationship I have with the team and coaches. I thought it would be the best choice for me and I would fit in with the team,” Ross told ZAGSBLOG contributor Alex Kline via Facebook.
The 6-8 Jones is coming off a recent official visit to Kansas.
