NEW YORK — Moments after his team lost to the Knicks, 104-101, at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night, Celtics coach Doc Rivers talked to me about the recruitment of his son, Austin.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Rivers is the No. 2 shooting guard in the nation and a junior at Winter Park (Fla.).

After initially committing to Florida, Rivers opted to visit Duke and is now considering North Carolina as well.

“Florida is still the front-runner and Duke, it’s those two. He’s just looking around. I think he wants to really look at other schools to get a bearing on what he likes and I like what he’s doing,” Doc said.

NEW YORK –– Whether or not Fred Hill remains as the head coach at Rutgers, the team could be facing a mass exodus of players.

Sophomore shooting guard Mike Rosario is “considering” transferring, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

“He’s considering it,” the source said. “He’s waiting to see what happens.”

The source said Rosario was waiting to see if Hill gets fired in the wake of his profanity-laced tirade at a Pittsburgh-Rutgers baseball game last week that may have violated several behavior clauses in his contract.

“He’s holding off to see who the new coach is,” the source said.

INDIANAPOLIS –Rutgers basketball coach Fred Hill is facing possible termination following an incident last week in which he reportedly got into a verbal confrontation at a school baseball game, according to a report by Gannett New Jersey.

“We are actively investigating the incident involving the head men’s basketball coach that took place at our baseball game last Thursday on campus. The reports and eyewitness accounts are very concerning,” Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti said in a statement.

The story was first reported by Keith Sargeant and Jerry Carino of Gannett New Jersey.

According to the initial account, following a controversial call at first base in the ninth inning of Rutgers’ 9-8 victory over Pittsburgh last Thursday at Bainton Field, Hill stood in front of the Rutgers dugout yelling profanities at Pitt baseball coach Joe Jordano and his staff.
