The Wall Street Journal released a lengthy story Wednesday that indicates the following:
**A source told the paper that NCAA investigators have found violations at the school
**An NCAA report will be issued “in the near future”
**Head coach Jim Calhoun has yet to sign his contract extension
A year ago, Yahoo! Sports chronicled NCAA violations which occurred during UConn’s pursuit of recruit Nate Miles.
The Tampa Tribune later reported that Josh Nochimson, a former UConn student manager who became a sports agent, paid several thousand dollars for Miles to have surgery in December 2007.
“Could I have made a mistake? Sure.” Calhoun told Yahoo! Sports during the 2009 NCAA tournament. “The [rules] manual is 508 pages. Someone could’ve made a mistake.”

It is unfortunate that Jim Calhoun’s tremendous career will be blemished by this issue. I hope UCONN does not rush to have him removed – for one thing, finding another coach is not easy.

Awesome time to be a UConn fan, for sure.

Shady C should do what’s best for the program – leave before the sanctions begin, the recruits continue to avoid him, and the program suffers. He’s been a great coach, he should leave with his legacy intact. Although it’s worth noting he was at a minimum unethical at various junctures, including the *legal* payoff to Rudy Gay’s AAU coach…

While I wonder wut the violation(s) is/are I’m not expecting any REAL punishment for UConn.
It’s not like the NCAA would prohibit them from playing on live television, for a year and prohibit them from playing in the NCAA tournament for two years, take away a scholarship a year for three years and require them to give back a money they received as a result of making the NCAA tournament in any year the violation(s) occured.
They’ll either get a slap on the wrist or maybe the NCAA will get so mad at UConn that they’ll slap sanctions on Elon to show UConn they’re serious.
The NCAA is a joke.

This is looking a lot like the way Lute Olsen left Arizona.

you got it Russ. You know EXACTLY what I’m talking about…your details show the inconsistency between penalties levied out to programs…

This will be a slap on the wrist. I don’t really see how any games can be vacated considering Miles never participated in one official practice let alone a game or exhibition for UConn. He was expelled from the school before the fall semester even started! This is a story of 2 Yahoo writers dedicating all of their time to finding any dirt on Calhoun bc he probably put them in their place after one of his famous post game conferences. I congratulate the NCAA for dragging this out for over 13 months to give UConn as much negative publicity as possible.
