Gilchrist Not at UK; Knight to Announce This Week

Despite an Internet “report” that Michael Gilchrist is currently visiting Kentucky, his mother says that information is false.

“No he wasn’t and he has no visits planned,” Cindy Richardson wrote in a text.

Gilchrist has been with his AAU team, Team Final, at the Boo Williams Nike Invitational in Virginia for the past several days. On Friday night, he had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists when they lost to Each One Teach One, 76-69.

The 6-foot-7 Gilchrist, out of Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick, is the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2011 and has listed Kentucky and Villanova as his favorites.

KNIGHT TO ANNOUNCE WEDNESDAY

Brandon Knight, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2010, will announce his college choice Wednesday at 4 p.m EST on ESPNU, according to the Orlando Sun Sentinel.

The 6-foot-3 Knight is expected to announce either Kentucky, Kansas, UConn, Syracuse or Florida, although Florida already pulled itself out of the Knight Sweepstakes and Syracuse has never been a heavy player.

Knight averaged 31.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists this past season and was named the Gatorade High School Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

  • Reports surfacing that Gilchrist could announce next week ? Another false report or has Michael made up his mind.

  • Jerry Meyer on rivals is saying C.J. Leslie is a NC State lean, must be hard to swallow for kentucky fans, Especially since T Jones is down to UDub,Oregon, and Ucla.

  • He’s definitely here at the Boo. Austin Rivers outplayed him last night.

  • True, T Jones isn’t leaving the Pac10.

  • UK is most definitely in the picture for Terrance Jones. I’m not sure where you’re getting your information but it’s not accurate. Cal is scheduled to meet with Jones either today or tomorrow in Portland.

Leslie is a tough one to read. He has told John Wall on numerous occassions that he wants to play at UK, but he has said the same thing to Harrow regarding NC State.

  • interesting article on kusports.com this morning with some recruiting news.

    http://www2.kusports.com/news/2010/apr/10/ohio-states-turner-takes-wooden-honor-over-collins/

  • He’s considering them yes, but you make it sound like T Jones has Kentucky number one on his list! Sorry, but Washington and the other 2 Pac10 schools are above UK on the totem poll.

  • Nothing but speculation like all the other news for the past couple months with no hard evidence, but thanks for the link.

  • Interesting article. Selby #1 overall? Pretty impressive if that happens. Really wish Arizona could land him or McCallum but not expecting it.

  • Zonawildcat- 95% of all recruiting news is speculation. Its about all we have until a kid commits.

  • AZ,

    Knew that Book would stay.
In a few years, he will be offered a HC job.
    Good decision by BOOK.

    Any news on Knight.
YES, he will NOT go to Kansas Gangster U.
    Not even a strong consideration.

Will Josh S. be a WILDCAT?

And Terrence Jones will not be going to Kensucky.
    LMAO…
A last attempt by Cali after loosing on CJ.

    Time to MAKE your prediction….

Does Kansass Gangster U get ANY top recruits for this year?
So far, ALL the top recruits are NOT buying what Self is selling.
When it smell like ….then, it is B. Sxxx.

Time to share the BIG NEWS.

  • OMG speculation regarding recruits and where they’re going? That’s not possible. My favorite is regarding Kadeem Jack (you know, the guy UA fans are salivating over?). The latest is that Lavin is offering his high school coach a job.

  • Oh, and Jessie, you must be out of the loop. Selby will ink with KU & now there’s word that Self is back in on T. Jones (according to Maeshon).

Good luck with McCallum…I’m sure Miller can talk him out of playing for pops.

Your “Gangster U” crap isn’t working with recruits…but feel free to keep it up.

  • Jones will be playing in the SEC fo sho. Syaing UK is at the bottom of his list is wishful thinking.

KU is hilarious thinking they are getting back in with Jones. Only person KU might get is Selby.

CJ Leslie can lean all he wants but he will be at Kentucky

  • honestly, if KU only got Selby i will be happy. anybody else is icing on the cake. I don’t think KU will get jones (not sure why self and him are talking again though) and Lamb could go either way (UK or KU).
    If i had to guess…
    Selby-KU
    Lamb-UK
    Knight-UK

everyone else is too hard to read at this point

  • I would agree on Selby & Knight. I think Lamb is too hard to gauge right now and since he and Selby have talked about playing together I could see him choosing KU.

TJ, why is it hilarious? And who said UK is at the bottom of Jones’ list? I think he’s staying on the west coast, but who knows? Your assertion that the only person we “might get is Selby” is laughable. We only have two schollies to give (you need to sign at a minimum 5 guys) so I doubt we’ll need to sign anybody else.

I’m glad to see you know more about CJ Leslie than Jerry Meyer.

  • kensucky and arizona pussy cat fans can all suck it.

Too bad your hopes are shot down. lol Terrence Jones is either going to sign with Oregon or UW. So keep trying to convince yourself he is considering either of you. This word coming straight from The Rose Garden here in Portland, Ore. today at The Nike Hoop Summit, is that he is staying here in the pacific northwest and close to home.

Say what you wish, but suck it once facts become available and the dominoes fall. So jessiepussycat, looks like arizona continues to lose out and be a non-factor in college basketball. lol Better luck next time.

  • fearthephog25, you’re just asking for trouble. Wait until the PointGuardU and goasscats boys get here & read this stuff.

And don’t be so hard on Jessie…he’s banned from every other site so this is his only sanctuary (besides his parent’s basement).

  • RockChalkWoody,

Not going to play games with them, just going to tell it like it is. lol No need for them to get a false sense of hope, only to have it shot down. I spoke with TJ’s mother, and she has moral. Her son won’t be able to be baught.

Depending on who is coaching at Oregon, he is pretty much a UW Husky.

  • You obviously can’t read because I didn’t read ONE reply from an Arizona fan saying that we were gonna get in with T Jones. We never were and Miller has never tried to recruit him.

Besides; we have absolutely NO scholarships left! We are capped out right now, but Miller is saying he wants one more which translates into him pushing one of our scrubs out that shouldn’t have been on the team in the first place but got a seat during Lute’s debacle.

I did comment to the UK fans thinking they will land Jones. I said he would stay in the Pac10 and I stand behind that argument. These UK fans think that everyone and their dog wants to play for a sleazeball coach like Calipari, well they are about to find out different.

And Arizona a non-factor in basketball? What in the last 2 years? Yeah maybe, but for the last couple century Arizona and UCLA straight up dominated the Pac10, it was them and everyone else. Miller is building his foundation and we will go back to destroying your huskies like the good o days!

  • Oh wait…we did beat you by 17 this year so I guess that counts too!

  • Jessie, when do the “Three Amigos” get started in Tucson? We won’t be able to match up with them in Vegas.

  • Zonawildcat., my comments were thrown at jessiepussycat. And I am a Jayhawk, hence fearthephog25. lol I just happen to know a lot about husky hoops, from living in Seattle now. I am not a husky fan, but I am glad TJ chose to stay close to home. Instead of playing for that scum calimari.

  • I was wondering who he was referring to w/ that Husky crap–guess he’s never heard of Phog Allen, huh?

FYI the word is Calipari is holed up in a hotel out there & he’s made T. Jones his #1 priority so it will be interesting if he gets him or he whiffs. I’m with you…I think the kid stays out west. And for what it’s worth…Self blew it w/ this kid last year by getting in on him very late & for whatever reason, he slow played him.

  • Sorry you are right; I’m not in any way interested in the history of Kansas or Phog Allen’s affiliation with your school. I was going off of his response and to me he sounded like a Huskie fan.

Someone’s username doesn’t always indicate that person ONLY likes that school.

Anyways, sounds like Calipari is making a bunch of recruits his number one priority. He can try all he wants but TJ isn’t leaving the Pac10. Of course he is going to entertain the idea of playing for Kentucky, he’s getting some much needed and deserved cred, but in the end it won’t work. He is more than likely Huskie bound.

  • Why go there? Why get him started. Sometimes you are worse than Jessie!

  • Wow, some of the comments here are insane. Most of the folks here have no inside knowledge but try to sound like the definitive authority on recruiting. Ironically, it is mostly Arizona fans who have no shot at landing any top recruits.
I actually like Sean Miller a lot and I think (and hope) Zona is going to be very successful under him. No need to tear down UK or KU to make Zona look good folks.

Someone said KU will land “only” Selby. LOL. Selby might be an NBA all-star 3 years from today. A class of him alone is better than 95% of the other schools.

As for UK, I follow recruiting very closely but I have no inside knowledge. From what I have read, it looks like a big week is coming up for Kentucky:

From 2011, Michael Gilchrist and Marquis Teague (top 2 players) could be committing.

From 2010, Brandon Knight is expected to commit. Odds look good for Doron Lamb to join him. Hard to read T Jones and CJ Leslie, but UK will likley get at least one of them. I think Jones is torn between Washington and UK. CJ Leslie had an excellent visit with Cal on Thursday (you can tell by his tweets). Personally, I think Jones should be UK’s #1 priority – he is perfect for the double dribble drive motion offense.

Other good news for UK was how Enes Kanter performed last night in Portland. Best player on the court in some opinions. Greg Doyel of CBS said he was already cleared by the NCAA but I would love to hear that from UK officially.

Best of luck to KU and Zona.

  • Gilchrist is a while away from committing, and Teague’s leader is L’ville.

Knight is a lock to UK, Lamb’s leader changed day to day but I say KU lands him( WVU is the dark horse here), CJ is a lock to UK, and T Jones is probably a package deal to UW with Terrence Ross.

The Clearinghouse hardly ever clears players this early, and DraftExpress is reporting that Kanter was paid over 600k to play professionally in Europe.

  • I’m no expert on recruiting and don’t claim to be but I see this whole thing shaking out with knight at uk, Selby at KU (maybe Tenn and that’s a huge maybe). Lamb is going to either Uk or Ku and I would put my money on Uk since it is closer to home and that seems to be big for him. Uk will also get either Leslie or Jones if and only if Patterson declares for the draft (he says he is 50/50 right now) If he stays then Leslie goes to N.C. state and Jones will most likely end up at either Washington or Oregon depending on who is hired as the coach at Oregon. Jones would be a good pickup for any team since his buddy Terrence Ross seems to be going to the same school as Jones. That makes me think Jones goes to UK (when Patterson declares) because they have the available scholarships for both of them. This week prob will be great for UK when it comes to 2011 too. Gilchrist has been a UK lean since he was a freshman in high school and Teague has his list down to UK and UofL and would be out of his mind to go to UofL over Uk since uofl has not had a good point guard come out of there in years. (not to mention he would most likely be playing behind Siva). Both claim they are almost ready to commit. Although he wont be committing any time soon, Quincy Miller is also a Uk lean in 11′ and is #3 in that class…. (with Miller, that would be 1,2 and 3) could be a great week to be a UK fan… I have to put in my disclaimer however, and say that I can def see at least one of these kids pulling a fast one and going to Uconn or Arizona though… Also, I am not an Arizona fan but I cant figure out why people are picking on the zona fans. I think they are going to be very good next year and compete with Wash. for the pac10. That may sound crazy now but wait and see….

  • Gilchrist has not been a UK lean since his freshman year. He was a MEMPHIS lean. A Calipari and WWW lean. UK didn’t get on his list until Calipari left Memphis for UK. Nova and UK are his favorites, but he will end up at UK no matter what. The only thing that could stop that is Calipari leaving for the NBA.

Seriously, leave your bias out of it. L’ville leads for Teague, and appears that he will announce for them whenever/wherever. You don’t keep a top 5 player on the bench. Teague starts wherever he goes, so playing time isn’t a worry, and he is a better player than Peyton Siva.

Miller isn’t leaning anywhere. Duke and UK are the most likely to land him.

One player that MAY go to UCONN is Cory Joseph. Every other guard looks set for UK or KU.

  • Yes I stand corrected, gilchrist has been a calipari lean since he was a freshman not a uk lean. I’m not sure where you are getting your information from about uofl being a leader for Teague. Everything I have read has showed him as a uk lean. There is no bias in what I said at all too. If you leave your bias out who would you pick? Choose between a coach who has had 2 and soon to be 3 point guard lottery picks (all top 5 picks) in the last 3 years or pitino who, even at kentucky, never really had a point guard who has done much in the NBA. I do still think he would put Teague behind Siva too. Siva would have two years experience on Teague and was a Mcdonalds all american in his own right. Pitino’s style of defense would have him splitting at least half the pt with Siva and I bet Siva would start. The bottom line is the player will make the decision and we are all just guessing. Teague’s father has confirmed he is in no way committed to either school right now and what I have read recently shows Indiana has no chance and UK and UofL are 1 and 2 respectively. He could pick UofL for all I know, but from what I have read (which I know is all basically speculation) he is about 60/40 in favor of UK. (or Calipari as you seem to want to put it.)

  • Don’t have to read anything about Teague. I know people close to him. L’ville is his leader. Thing with Teague is that he can play either guard spot well. It’d be possible to play both Siva and Teague at the same time. UK will likely bring in a guard or two who will stay multiple years this year as well, so he might be playing behind somebody at UK.

That’s what Cal makes it seem like. Teague may not announce for L’ville, but as of now, they are his leader because they have been on him the longest.

  • When was the last time you spoke with the folks close to Teague? Jerry Meyer of Rivals and other sources seem to suggest UK has surged in the lead for Teague just in the past week.

In addition, here is an article where his Dad disagreed with the UofL lean:

    http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-spt_boolede_0411apr11,0,210400.story

He also indefinitely postponed his announcement that was scheduled this past weekend (almost certainly for UofL because of Pitino’s extension).

This does not mean that Teague will not go to Louisville but I would say it is a toss-up, at minimum, between UK and Louisville at this point.

Personally, I’d bet on Cal but I am a UK fan.

  • P/S: T Ross to visit UK.. before any other school. Reading between the lines, I’d say T Jones is taking a hrad look at UK as well.

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskymensbasketballblog/2011586623_terrence_ross_s.html

  • I actually have a cousin who is on the staff @ uofl and he told me last week it would be a long shot for UofL to get him. The thing is he told me he only likes UofL because his dad played for Pitino at Boston U and that certainly didn’t land Pitino his 2 brothers. Going by all of what my cousin has told me about the situation thats why I think he will end up at UK. Honestly though with Teague I really dont think we will know for sure until the day he picks. I think he is alot like Lamb and is torn between 2 schools.

  • Terrence Jones is signing with UW. He states that “they (Huskies) have one of the most dangerous backcourts in college basketball.” I agree, they are quick and dangerous and will be able to feed him the ball.

    Good choice TJ !!!

Looks like calimari flew out to Portland this past weekend for nothing, LOL While focusing on TJ, who did uk drop the ball on.

  • The only one dropping the ball is Bill Self. First, he tries to get in Terrence Jones at the last minute only to have the door slammed on his face.

He finds out that he is losing Doron Lamb despite the 30 mins/game guarateed on a team with 11 guards, so he decides to kick poor Elijah Justice off the team (at minimum he has let the rumors fester) in the hopes that Lamb considers KU again.

  • That’s bs. EJ (it’s Johnson, not Justice–Elisha Justice is Mr. Basketball in KY who passed on UK & is attending Louisville) isn’t going anywhere. That rumor was started by some tool from Henderson, KY.

As for Self dropping the ball, I would agree he got in too late on T. Jones but the door hasn’t been slammed yet.

And for what it’s worth, the Jayhawks are deep next year…but they don’t have 11 guards.

  • Do I sense uk fans getting a little HOSTILE, DEFENSIVE and SKURD?

    LOL

    Settle down!! haha

  • About 4 days till Selby and Lamb announce. I see both of them going to Kentucky.

  • Selby didn’t even care to visit uk or give caIimari the time of day.

    Nice wishful thinking though. ROFL

calimari + uk = cor “RUPP” tion

  • Ha, good catch on the Justice-Johnson thing. I had to laugh on myself.

Look, I hate a silly back-and-forth with other fans but what is up with KU’s obsession with UK and Calipari? I should know better than to respond in kind but I could not help it this last time.

I actually enjoy following KU because their fans have similar passion to UK fans (small population states, no pro sports, state schools etc). In fact, most UK fans would root for KU over UNC, Duke and UCLA (until this year at least). But take a look at KUsports.com and theshiver.com, and you will see UK mentioned only second to KU and it’s all bashing.

UK fans have a lot of whacked out haters too, but the hate is evenly spread out to UofL, UNC, Duke, IU and some KU.

I say this in all honesty, I want KU to be successful as long as it is not at UK’s expense.

Also, I hope EJ sticks around as he seems like a good kid.. but you have to wonder why Self did not squash the rumor when he was asked.

  • You are exactly right on that KU hate for UK chicagouk. I have seen it too, everything from basic recruiting news to football stories about KU. I have also seen alot of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas State fans talking about how much trash the KU fans talk. They seem to be right…. I don’t pay any attention to it all though because it really dosn’t matter. When and if Cal has a problem at UK, the fans can worry then. Until then its all just talk.

I think thats a bit of wishful thinking beardown. Selby expressed concern with playing with Brandon Knight (who will most likely announce for UK tomorrow). If Lamb commits there is no way in the world Selby would too. Selby will end up at Kansas and Lamb prob at UK. Bottom line is those 2 will not be playing at the same school.

Leslie also said he wanted to play with Brandon Knight in college the other day and that would appear to mean UK. So I would say the possibility of TJ to Washington is pretty good (in fact prob what is going to happen). Washington will be good next year for sure with Jones (and probably Ross as well) added to their returning players.
